The bloke took over the IC and then went out of his way to try and harm other people's businesses in Udon. That is, until he got a smack in the mouth and went to Bangkok to hide for a couple of days.Originally Posted by dirtydog
It seems living in the sticks really aint such a good idea, you should read the korat forums, it seems quite similar to Udon Thani farang wise, ie farangs trying to destroy other farangs businesses etc, the wall round my land is about 2.5 meters high, I may make it higher
Met him about six month back when he was new to the place.Originally Posted by Marmite the Dog
Looks like that bloke from the fast show but with different glasses.
Out of greens Marmite.
Thanks for the info.
I think running a bar may not be a good idea for most people who attempt it, rather than living here.Originally Posted by dirtydog
WoW! Is that place still going? He died about 6/7 years ago and there was talk of his brother taking over. Great place to hang out and what a wealth of music vidsOriginally Posted by Bogon
Hi everyone,
Our first post on Teak Door. We hope it is appropriate and relevant to this thread.
British Pub The Pickled Liver on Sukhumvit Soi 7/1 is sponsoring food vouchers worth 200 Baht at FreePlayo.com. Check it out.
^ Nice looking site, will check it out properly later.
the trouble with the pickled liver is that it is at the far end of the narrow soi 7/1, and soi 7/1 is lined on both sides with tawdry blow job bars, brothels and massage joints that employ some of the ugliest whores in thailand, a walk down that soi is like a trip to hell as one gets accosted grabbed and jostled by baritone voiced ladyboys, screeching fishwife mouthed harlots , the saggy titted ageing crones from the eden club and the lipsticked fishnetted thunder thighed cartoon whores of dr bjs blow job emporium.
the soi is also home to some cheap dosshouses that provide accommodation for swarthy chain smoking middle easterners, sweaty africans and the heavily tattood and overweight falangs that make up the customer base for the decrepit jizz gurglers on this sordid little alley.
those who make it as far as the pickled liver deserve a drink on the house for their bravery and determination alone.
you used to be able to enter from a driveway to a hotel on soi 7 or soi 11 with a narrow alley that links to soi 9Originally Posted by taxexile
for aficionados of felliniesque gutter sleaze soi 7/1 is hard to beat, and gives new meaning to the both the phrase "walk of shame" and the concept of thainess.
I quite liked sitting out on the Pickled Liver's deck from time to time when one could observe the peregrinations of those who were exploring the street for the first time - they would amble down, taking in the sleaze and then hit the buffers of the cul-de-sac before turning round, wondering what they should do next. One could only imagine the inner conflicts they were wrestling with as they contemplated again the gamut of lairy, yabba'd freak ladyboys, pre-menopausal gat-tothed, spunk-breathed Isaan slappers, drunken, wife-beater T- shirt attired, fat-bellied, ugly, slack-jawed, jug- eared Antipodeans and gnarly, old leering tuk-tuk pimps offering their dog-eared, whore brochures.
I quite liked it there for being possibly the best metaphor for Thailand whilst offering a reasonable pint of draft lager in air-conditioned splendour at reasonable prices.
Some fantastic descriptions of 7/1 here. I think there's a way to avoid all of the above by walking down the adjacent soi 9 and rounding the corner.
I've never tried it. Taking the alternative path feels to me a little like going to the zoo but bypassing all of the animal displays by going straight to the gift shop through the fire exit.
You can also walk through the car park and onto Soi 11 just turn left saves walking down Soi 9.Originally Posted by Jimmy McNulty

The menu is over-priced and pretty similar to British provincial pub prices but portion size compensates and generally means a chap and his wingman can share one main meal if so minded.
I've never had a bad meal at the old Black Swan, have only been to the new one once, food was the same but the bar is more cramped and not as pleasant as the old place.
On the plus side I did get to take in some uncooked bacon without bother.
The owner has a new place close to the old Black Swan site called The Forge, stopped in a couple of times for a quick beer pleasant enough.
Best pub around there is still The Robin Hood imo, Cornish cider was 99 baht a pint a couple of weeks back and very good too. Black Swan always seemed a bit unprofessional to me- workers/owners kids running around and staff nattering loudly. Soi 7/1 ought to be renamed HIV Alley, gut wrenching hell hole.
Personally I can't stand the Robin Hood, I used to like it but really don't like it much these days.
Last meal I had there was awful.
I prefer the Bulls Head....
