The same as me. My electric oven works but has shorted out a couple of times. Now the Thai electrician has my wife believing that another short will cause the gas tank which is outside the house to blow up our whole house. Now my wife has an BA and an MA, but she really believes this.

So I will buy one more.

It's strange how educated people can so easily ignore both science and logic. I've given up fighting this battle and, like you, just spend a little coin or bite my tongue for the sake of peace at home....

^^I have a whirlpool fridge which is fairly crap as well, it was cheap though - they must make shitty stuff just for the Thai market.

I never do!! I will argue and argue 'til I'm blue in the face against this kind of crap! Even if I get the 2 or 3 day silent treatment, I don't care. I'm a western educated, logical, intelligent bloke who point-blank refuses to give in to this kind of mis-information by salesmen who simply want to scare people into buying their stuff. A pox on them all!

    I'm with you both.
Oh I have one of those sanyo ones, top and bottom burners, 3 gas rings and 1 electric one. Never seen one with an electric ring before, does occasionaly come in handy if you fun out of gas.

I find it easier to control the temp of the oven by adjusting the regulator on the gas tank, than the knob on the cooker
I have more than the average number of arm and legs

I have 3 gas ovens all are no good for accurate temps, luckily I have no idea how to bake food so it dont make no difference, but I got an electric toaster oven which is the business, I never use that either, but I will learn how to bake or bbq food soon, one or the other.

Ah, so THAT's what the blank space is for - an optional electric hot plate. The models I've seen don't have it, so maybe they changed the spec. on the cooker and just left it out.

I have another two gas rings and an electric plate in the middle, so I think I have enough now!

Just as a matter of interest, I'd like to know what YOU pay for your gas. In Phuket, a 15 Kg refill costs 300 baht. It used to be 280.

I also bought 2 new 15Kg bottles for 1,200 baht each, so I guess they are 900 baht, plus 300 for the gas inside. This was the price in Phuket City.

(These bottles are 16.5 Kg empty, plus 15 Kg gas = 31.5 Kg gross).

I looked at the same bottles nearer the tourist area (Par Lai) and they were 1,450 baht for 15 Kg, 1,000 for 7.5 Kg.

    So what's the price up-country?

Can't remember what i paid for the original tank, but 1100 rings a bell.
Re-fill is 300 baht, but it lasts for ever such a long time, usually more than 6 months.

I pay 285 for a refill delivered or 275 if I collect myself.
Use a cylinder every 5 weeks so that should be a current price.

Last time I bought a cylinder it was 900 baht

Well, HomePro brought the oven/stove today. An Electrolux model EKG 6700 X that we paid about B28,000 for. Now before you take a look at the photo keep in mind that I have been without a gas oven/stove for about 8 years or so here in Thailand and I wanted one now!

My kitchen is the smallest and worst designed room of the house but that will soon change. So forget the small working space and the raggedy electrical wires. Regardless, I had the damn stove/oven installed. Well almost. They wanted 2 meters of gas line instead of the 1.5 which I had bought. Tomorrow they will finish.

We have a gas grill, wok something or another, a turnspit, hints and tips; hell we damn near got the whole works...

    Tomorrow, I am a cooking!! YEEE-HAAWW!!

That's pretty amazing. Two opposng forces in action here - the depths of darkest Phrae where you live (increasing the cost of transportation) vs. the wealth of the average Thai who lives there (decreasing the profit margin).

Either that, or it's only half full!

I buy a 22 liter bottle of drinking water for 10 baht. My friend who lives at Soi Ari in Bangkok pays 50 and thinks it's cheap.

A guy used to come around where I lived before with a sam lor full of them. I tried it once, but thought it tasted of plastic. I buy the Nestle "Pure Life" 6 litre packs and Aura 6 x 1 1/2 litre packs. More expensive, but not when you consider the cost of a bottle of beer...
