    Overrated Restaurants in Thailand

What restaurants are overrated in Thailand?

Could be in the area of value, service or the quality of their food.

    For me?

Outback Steak House is number 1 in all areas.

Bourbon Street runs a close second. The owner is arrogant and the food quality would never keep him in business in the US. It can be tasty, but definitely overrated.

Oishi blows. Have got the squirts every time I eat there. However I always here Thais bragging on it and its usually packed out.

Oishi Ramen is ok but I prefer Hachiban.

most, if not all of the british/irish style pubs on sukhumvit.

guffawing expats showing off their wristwatches, faux trendy thai hangers on, and expensive microwaved glop.

In Pattaya the New Orleans restaurant- expensive and awful. I imagine only tourists go there, because it advertises a lot.

    Any MK

Other than that, can't think of anywhere that has been rated as good but I found bad.

Actually I just thought of one, Chokchai Steakhouse. Bad quality food, especially the side dishes.

Yes thats because the meat they use is made from the dead bodies they pull out of boys town and the owners a twat.

He must be a twat, given the simpering pooves he employs. 210 bht for a glass of shite wine, the absolute most diabolical attempt at crispy pata I have ever tried, the ribs were coated in a sickly sweet sauce and must have been simmered to something approaching a mush- I've had TVP that tastes more like meat. Just awful.

Any restaurant with the word ' Mexican' in the title\ signage/menu/. Guaranteed low grade dog food. Sukhumvit BKK or PTY... same shit.

When will people get it into their heads that 'refried beans' means exactly that. Some other customer has failed to eat all that crap so we'll just re-fry them and sell them again.

I have to agree, the worst meal & service I've ever experienced in Patters was in the New Orleans...

Having lived in New Orleans for a number of years, I thought I would give it a shot, hoping for some semblance of Cajun or Creole cuisine... I was sorely disappointed...

Yeah, tried that one once, and that was it. Nothing to do with my experience in the US. Simply horrible. Not sure how they think they could get away with it. I noticed prices got a bit cheaper but it's still crap food.

That's the one in the corner in gay street, isn't it ? went there a few times, but that was a very long time ago and the food was good despite an average service.

Nah, sorry guys, gotta disagree slightly. Solid gold that place.

When I got Auntie Em and Uncle Bob from Newcastle-on-Tyne on a 2 day stop over to go see our Sharon in Australia, C&C is right up there on my list of places. Its got everything. Right in the heart of town, reasonable (for tourist) Thai food (not over spiced), a fairly casual ambience, and a slight frisson of tittilation - oh er missus, and a gift shop where they can buy a slightly riske (accent over the "e") souvenier.

Drop in the odd point that profits get put back into the HIV/AIDs campaign, the odd story about Meechai, and my work is done.

    Love the place.

I've been there a few times- it's pricey (especially if you order a decent bottle of wine) but the food is actually pretty good.

    Gulliver's Suk Soi 5.

What a festering shite hole that place is. I have no particular fondness for food, pretty much only eat because I'm hungry and need too, so am therefore usually quite easily satisfied. Yet they somehow still managed to fuck it up even for me.

For everyone. If it's more than 25% full, it goes to pieces. The management get rude and aggressive if you ask them where you meal is after waiting for ages. They once wouldn't let me have a 'bin' because I was sitting about 2ft away from the table where the other dozen or so people in my group were sitting.

another one crossed off the list.

Yep, that's the place. Waited 15min for a drink and then only for the wrong one to arrive. Somehow this was my fault.

We were there specifically to watch the rugby which they assured us would be shown. Ten minutes from kick-off they said it would be shown but no volume/commentary. No problem we said. Five minutes from kick-off they said that they weren't going to show it at all. $^&% you *^*&$ (*^#$%#!'s! we said and then left.

    5 star from me then!

Actually any Restaurant that presents their food on huge white plates with lines of raspberry and decorative rabbit food to cover up some of the space on that plate are shit IMO.

How many of these high class restaurants I have walked out of after a feed, (sure the miniscule portion of food was tasty enough and the serving looked pretty) and then I have had to stop and buy a hamburger or Gai Yang to fill me up.

Most of the 5 star hotel's restaurants in Bangkok and Pattaya, and when ordering from their menu are shite in my opinion particularly when it comes to serving farang food.
