Cool - I'm off to P'Lok next week, but I have ot do a visa run before the end of August.

I'm in Phitsanulok right now - just about to head out to the night market down by the river. In need of a few brews after white water rafting - need some bloody aftersun too as I'm burnt to a crisp.

I heard today from ex ThaiVisa legend 12Call that the owner of the FC in Surin is dying, maybe that's why the place isn't being looked after.

I'm glad I didn't post it on TV.

Or maybe they are just shite at making farang food?

Bit sad to hear it. No matter about his food (he is English), he ran a decent operation in terms of providing accomodation and tourist services in Surin, in fact he was The Man. I overnighted in Surin, as luck would have it, during last years Elephant round-up. The town was chock a block, virtually no rooms available.

He managed to get us a room, and it seemed most of the farangs in town were there on his tour packages. Basically, his net economic value to tourism in Surin was and is very significant. Without his energy and drive, can't see it continuing the same way.

I doubt he has much energy and drive now.

Farang connection in Surin was TV head quarters in the North.
Last year when I toured up there I thought I'd drop in and check out this Martin character as I'd read a few things about the gaff before they arseholed me from TV.

Anyway he seamed OK, his food was alright, the beer was cold and I liked the position of his restaurant behind that bus station.

His claim to fame was his full English breakfast, I hardly ever eat that shit because I dont want to turn into a fat, spotty ugly bastard and only give it a bash when I'm hung over.

After drinking a skin full the night before I decided to try the poisonus full english breakfast and I must say it was foking brilliant including a big cup of tea, well worth the 200 baht.

Martin has gone and thats why the place has gone down the shitter.

Sorry to hear Martin has the big C and hope he can fight it off as he dont deserve that even though he was a member of TV.

I remember Martin (lampard10) as one of the nicer posters on TV.

A feckless, rootless Swan Vesta happens upon a watering hole in deepest Isaan and writes a less than flattering review on the not unpredictable grounds that the comestibles were less than authentic and served disagreeably under the patronage of a falang in some marital disharmony.

What the fuck did the prick expect? A branch of the Oriental opened for his delectation with rose petals sprinkling his way to a table adorned by the finest linen attended by sweet virgins bearing pork products raised in organic splendour amidst the splendid rolling hills of some pig Nirvana?

And of course, in extremis, our poor disappointed boulevardier in jaded nostalgia utters that cri de coeur " where is Timba ? " as if such an invocation would compensate him for his lost pleasures.

Mmmmm.... can't get what I want in hicksville so I'll salivate upon the cuisine of a luk kreung whose expertise could be measured by the breadth of a garlic clove as if that amounted to anything very much except to an aspiring oik.

Perhaps the Scamp might have concluded otherwise if Martin had commissioned our little freckled auteur to publicise his establishment a la videodrama ?

I do hate folk taking pot shots at soft targets particularly when there is no reason beyond providing a so called opportunity for expressing what they might stupidly presume to be their ' talents ' ( unless of course the object of derision might be a demented seppo or two).
