Oh, for Gawd's sake, leave the poor bloke alone. Especially those of you that wouldn't know one end of a ladle from another, let alone what it was used for!

Artisan, don't think you're going to get much joy re child menus here mainly because Thai food (as said before by others) is ordered in many dishes and everybody eats a small amount of a large amount of things. I think kiddy menus (unless in fast food joints) are considered a Western extravagance and hence only catered for by Western hotels etc.

If you ever do find a kid friendly restaurant or get a home with a kitchen, a tip for veggie hating kids is to puree the veggies in a blender before adding them to soups, bolognese sauce, chillis, stews, whatever. Tried and tested successfully on a very big kid - my ex! My littl'un loves veggies & salads, luckily, so no problems with him (hates spicy food, though )

Sung to we are the world

    There comes a time
    When your kid is hungary
When the world must come together as one
    There are kitchenless children
And it's time to lend a hand to life
The greatest gift of all a gas cooker chopsticks & a knife

    We can't go on
Eating adult portions out day by day
That someone, somewhere will soon fit a kitchen
We are all a part of
    God's great big family
And the truth, a kitchen is all we need

    [Chorus]
    We are the world
    We are the kitchenless children
We are the ones who never get to sizzlers any day
    So let's start cooking
    There's a choice of children’s meals
    We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better breakfast then fatties
    Just you and me

Send them a brand new oven
So they'll know that someone cares
And their lives will be stronger and free
As God has shown us by turning stone to bread
So we all must lend a kitchen accessory hand

    [Chorus]
    We are the world
    We are kitchenless children
We are the ones who have to eat adult meals out every day
So let's start giving knives spoons and forks
    There's a choice we're making
    We're saving our own lives
    It's true we'll make a better day
    Just you and me

    that's exactly what we need.

I have a friend who also happens to be a memeber of this board and he lived for awhile here with only an electric pan and a rice cooker and did real well and finally got a microwave.
Then he was really shitting in some tall cotton.

The first room i look at when I move apartments is the Kitchen, then the living room, then the bathroom.

I can't believe that there are still people around who don't have a basic kitchen. Even a corner of a living room can be made into a sort of kitchen - with a kettle, micro wave, hot plate etc. just takes imagination and lots of plugs.

Even the Survivors managed to build a kitchen to get by.

You know it is a statistical fact that children that grow up without a kitchen are pre disposed to Bulimia.

Totally right, Patsy, but from some of the Thai houses I've viewed a kitchen ain't a necessity as it is to us in the West. A lot of my neighbours' kitchens are outside, which I just can't get my head around - roaches, ants, vermin, yuk! I'd far rather have the hotplate in the living room as you suggested.

I also know very few Thais that actually cook for themselves every day. Most (that I know) go to hawker stalls & restaurants. Hell, there's even a woman on a motorbike who comes to my neighbour's house 6:30am every morning to sell them their breakfast. I just think it's a bit unfair to keep ragging on Artisan when, as far as I can see, he's just doing what many, many Thais do.

Hey Artisan, we had the same prob when we wanted to take our 10 year old out. We eat Thai at home so we like to eat western food when we go out. Recently girl-child started getting restless and bored at dinner with us olds, so now we take her best friend with us. Works great as they usually share a nain meal (spag bol and garlic bread being their favs). Then they play with their toys and keep each other company while we finish our food. Win win.
