Melted crayon/wax on donuts in LOS

Have you ever had one of these frosted style donuts in LOS?

They look similar to those found overseas but tastewise they just don't compare in my opinion. In fact, the are terrible. I don't know what they use to cover them but it sure seems it must be made of wax or crayon. What is the frost made of?

Back in Los Angeles, Cambodians have taken over dozens of donut shops and they produce some pretty darn good donuts. Here in LOS no one can seem to get it right; even Dunkin Donuts and Mr Donut are producing crappy donuts. Maybe its what the Thais want or maybe its just too expensive to use real creme or whatever the frosting is. Not sure what the real reason is but the end result turns their frosted donuts into rubbish.

Thanks for that info, I was wondering what they used on the donuts here, now I know.
Terrible fucking things, just like everything they try to make, always figure some way to fuck it up, be it a donut or a light switch.

I dont mind the filled donuts and those munchkin things but I do stay away from the frosted ones. Dunkins the better of the two, I went to Mr Donut a while back and the donuts are half the size and taste oily if anything.

You ever notice half-eaten "food" that's been tossed on the ground and there is absolutely not one living creature nibbling on it? These donuts are like that--not a bird, dog, bug or whatever will touch these things. If a soi dog won't even touch it why would anyone think they are fit for human consumption?

On the corner of the Strand and St Martins lane ( I think) ?
I have vivid memories of my mum taking me there on our first trip to London. Must have been in the late 60's. Brilliant place. We had cake. Loads of cake. Ha, what a flash back. Thanks.

You mean donuts are not supposed to taste like that? And I wondered for years how you americans can eat that stuff.

Good observation, OP. I've noticed the same. Putrid poor examples of a donut. I lived in Redondo Beach in 2006 (just off Artesia and Airline Ave) and had a Cambo bakery just up the street. Fantastic stuff. Good breads, pies, donuts. Nice people, too.

The shit the chain outlets (Dunkin, Mr Donut) sell here is repulsive. Crayon wax ...

Tesco's doughnuts with custard were my favourites. Those 'doughnut' shaped doughnuts are crap.

Don't eat them here so I don't know, but those ones in the pick look like the ones Hommer Simpson takes to work everyday.

I grew up above my dads bakery in England and he made a quality jam dougnut. When he retired 8 years ago I asked for his recipe book for all his cakes and he said that I could buy them from him!

    What a tight old foker!

Thai fruit does! Thats one of the reasons I don't eat it. How can any one eat that red hairy nut sack looking one with green bits? The thoughts alone going through my head would make me yaff it up!

Isn't it a bit too far to fly to Kandahar just to get some decent donuts?

Oooh, it's for the Canuck troops. I think they even share with the other forces. Course, you gotta have C$, I think. I go to the Timmies near me. Man, these shops are jam-packed all day long. Beats the heck outta Starbucks.

    Sweet food - yuk.

In Thailand they don't just like it sweet, they like it sick.
