Yeah, it's a recommendation for fat slobs with more money than sense.

The restaurant is Sarungkham which is about 15K west of central Korat. The owner is from the north. She prepares a rather eclectic selection of food: pork, beef and fish steak, curries, khao soi, spaghetti and garlic bread and more. Two of our favorites are pictured above:
Gaeng Hang Lei, which is a northern style pork curry.
Pla Bpla Krapong Tot Krap, which is chunks of crispy deep fried sea bass smothered with a sort of chutney made from finely chopped lemon grass, lime, garlic and onion garnished with peanuts, cilantro and fresh lettuce topped with fried chilies.
The blue rice was a surprise. It tasted like normal rice; maybe a bit sweeter. The chef called it Khao Ahnchan. Ahnchan is a flower which has a color much like the blue rice.
It was all quite delicious.
Just asked the 'Missus', about this rice, says that she has never seen it before, but then she is from Phayao, and often cooks me Gaeng Hang Lei, which is high on my list of favourites.
This place might just be the perfect place for breakfast after the housewarming party!

That is special, BH. Never seen it before.
I was at the Home Fresh Mart at The Mall today and they actually had uncooked rice that was colored blue in a section called "spice rice". I didn't see one with the same name as the one we ate, though.Originally Posted by Jet Gorgon
Real fragrant rice, BH! Will have to look for it.
Today, I had boiled new baby spuds with butter, boiled baby beet root with butter (repeat of last night's din), and a toasted vine tomato sandwich with mayo and butter. Espesso blend coffee with cream. A few leftover bing cherries to unclog the cholesterol. Glass of water...should I have a glass of wine?
A fishburger at the Downunder Bistro.
Very average...
Where is this place? I mean, how far up the Soi?Originally Posted by Marmite the Dog

Thanks, found this as well:

^ blimey, for the prices they charge I would expect it to be very good indeed.
Hokkien fried mee. Wasn't very nice and left a few stains on my shirt.
We'd seen this place on the way home from Pak Chong last week but we weren't sure exactly where it was. After three U-turns and a complete circuit of Tambon Baan Mai we finally found it.
It was well worth it. It's a cute place with a nice garden, plenty of orchids and a nice pond and bridge out front.
We had Yam Mamuang Pla Tot (crispy fried fish with mango salad) and Gaeng Keo Wan Gai (green chicken curry). Both were quite good.
Now that we know how to get there, we'll go back.
