...Chim Chim is the restaurant attached to the Siam@Siam hotel across from National Stadium...the restaurant had been overtaken by an extraordinarily boisterous Filipino table from which we fled to a far corner where the muzak was loud and annoying. As it turns out, these were clues of what was to come: bland mediocrity, tasteless mains, boring appetizers and a passable dessert...never again: poached eggs on English muffin with Hollandaise sauce, pasta vongole, cauliflower cheese, and bacon roasted potatoes...nothing memorable...or even finished...
...after lunch we stopped at MBK to visit Don Don Donki (where Tokyu once was), a down-market department store with hundreds of bins of detritus from the Chinese mainland...the shoppers were far more interesting than what was on sale: Europeans examining Japanese utensils, Indians fondling Christmas decorations, Japanese teenagers looking at ultra-cheap make up, lots of folks overwhelmed at the variety of worthless nonsense available...in short, it was fascinating enough to keep us there for 20 minutes before we fled to the BTS...
