...an old teakwood shophouse on the Klong San side of the river...excellent views while sipping a variety of cold/hot non-alcoholic drinks and nibbling on light snacks:

The contents of those bottles are more than a little suspect.

In a country of mountains and jungle and waterfalls, I'm not too sure what's excellent about the view.

Nice old wooden house though.

...indeed. They are what's left of ancient products from a local distillery...for display, not consumption...

The rare occasion that one will come across these fine old hard wood structures.

Are u telling me that a Thai restaurant with no shade closes at 6pm? Like they only open during the super sunny hours that Thai people love so much and then close when they all want to come out and eat?

In the capital maybe most villages around me still have most like that with the odd modern Bungalow Shophouse built by the minted or the farangs roped in.

No..the sign in the first op pic is telling all of us. Bangkok and the rest of the country is full of wee shops like this that cater to local workers.

Same up here. Last urban renewal was around 1925.
