...at pretentious Central World, 7th floor...we started with a free appetizer that included deep-fried backbones of discarded trash fish and then moved on to salmon maki. A delicious spicy tuna roll followed. My first time to have (or see) avocado tempura (a bit bland, but not uninteresting); it went well with the shrimp tempura. We finished lunch with a satisfying seafood yakisoba. With 2 small Asahi and water: B2,400. We're going back...

...I did see it...I don't do well at all-you-can eat places (it takes many hours for the boa to digest the pig)...Oishi Grand in the the Discovery Center has a similar offer: stuff your face for 2 hours, then you're carted out...

Imo the secret to an all-you-can-eat is not to stuff your face but have just enough so you can leave feeling like you could handle another small plate of something. I've seen people bloat up just to get their moneys worth, but ask and you'll discover only the first half of their feast was enjoyable and the rest a struggle.

You'd be expert on being farang....

simple tuna maki is probably my favorite sushi, simple, yet much like a burger, the ingredients all make the difference. Those dressed up California rolls don't really appeal to me at all. I was taught that sushi should be one bite servings.

I would like the try the avocado though...that sounds really interesting.

I have the same aversion to anything buffet. I can never eat enough to justify the money.

I'm talking day-to-day eating and not a once a year 2500 blow out at a large hotel downtown Bangkok with free flow wine etc. That is about company and occasion, not just sustenance.

Agree. And coincidentally, the Okinawans (with the greatest per capita number of centenarians in the world) put their longevity down, in part, to "hara hachi bu" or "eat 'till 80% full".

Did anyone else have the Freudian slip of the eyes and read Tom's thread title as Homo Sushi?

...revisiting Honmono Sushi after a 3.5-year hiatus...ordered much the same as in the OP: about 10% more for smaller servings. Still, delicious, efficiently served and plenty of Asahi...

...at a Honmono branch in Bang Na for lunch after sofa shopping all morning...: ...spicy salmon salad, caterpillar roll, spicy tuna roll, soft shell crab tempura, grilled pork on rice, baked eggplant half coated with fermented tofu sauce, avocado tempura and grilled and boiled edamame...SD had a coconut shake and I had Asahi beer: a very enjoyable and satisfying feast...
