French fries or chips as we Anglo saxons call them originated in Belgium.
The French bit was a miss translation, the original word was frecht ( sliced )

Sad I admit but we are moving to Belgium next month and I came across this recently.

I apologise for being a nerd
Might not even be of Euro origin.
Can guarantee that the local South Americans, from which "real" potatoes are native, were devising a wide variety of taking the delectable tubers.

Eurocentric illusion tends to haze such thought process.....and rationale.

Suppose you could be correct Thaineme after all the humble spud had been eaten a long time before European people got their teeth into them. I was merely referring to the description of French fries

QuIte right. Why would anybody live in a country where they can't eat the food? Weird. If you want them to make something bland and different for you then pay them more. Would you go into McDonald's and demand snail feiulletes on asparagus foam?

I was using an Anglicisation. Don't worry about it, the concept is probably beyond you. BTW, if you do feel the need to write in French it's "feiulletes d'escargot"

    Really? That's a bit of a non-sequitur, and verging on a faux-pas.

School teacher? Yesterday you thought I was a cop. Make your mind up. It's not like I've not mentioned what I do for a living several times on TD over the last 10 or so years.
