Good news for baked bean lovers

Went to Lotus this Am and saw a can of Brooks baked beans, thought I would give them a spin. Brooks stuff is normally OK and always well priced.

These compare well in price with Ayam brand, which have way too much sugar at 8%. I know that certain English people like Ayam, but they also like warm flat beer, which tells me lot.
Ayam do manufacture a light BB's with 4% sugar but the taste like crap.

Anyway, I looked on the back of the Brooks can to see how much sugar they contained, 4% and then saw who they were manufactured by.

For Brooks by SPC in Australia.
SPC beans are nearly as good as the Kiwi Heinz ones, so thats good news, for me anyway, good beans at only 39B a can.

I try to limit beans to once a week because I am concerned about Green house gaes and a good feed of beans will produce enough Methane from myslf to make a significant contribution, but my kids love them and they don't seem to suffer the same problem with Flatulance that I do.
There can’t be good living where there is not good drinking

Jai Yen yen Mate. They are made in OZ so have no doubt that they will be good. I will give them a run in the morning with my saturday AM fry up.
If I ate them now, the timing will be so that I suffocate my 'ol lady and kids with highly noxious gases tonite.

Great, I'll give them a try. I usually buy Ayam, but that's because there really wasn't an altrnative. I agree, too sweet.
I love 'Skin-heads on a raft' for breakfast (that's baked beans on toast to you).

PP, I think your perception of what makes a good bean to be flawed.
The taste, colour and flavour are irrelevant.
The gas making qualities are paramount .
This is the beans raison d'etre.

Please report back with a measured or estimated cubic metre per serving.

cant you get Heinz beans easily over there?

we have both the UK and Australian ones in nearly all the supermarkets.

Understandably the Aussie ones are half the price of the UK variety

Not really a certainty. Your yeast extract, cheese and beer is shite, so why shouldn't your baked beans be shite too?

In NZ, Sanitarium make a truly crap version of Marmite. It's so bad, it tastes the same as Vegemite.
