International Tourists Charmed By Thailand's Mountain Peak

CHIANG MAI, Dec 29 (Bernama) -- International tourists are flocking to Thailand's mountain peak in the northern resort Chiang Mai Province to view an assortment of full-bloom cherry flowers, dubbed the 'Thai Sukura', reports Thai News Agency Wednesday.

The wild Himalayan cherry flower dotting a road toward the In-tha-non Mount has attracted thousands of tourists, causing traffic congestion from the park's entrance.

The pink flowers are producing a rare picturesque scenery in Thailand, making it an ideal New Year holiday recreation for many.

The Thai Sakura has reached its full bloom earlier than normal, offering tourists visiting the hilltop an extra reward.

The National Park, where two sacred pagodas are located, also offers camping grounds for the international visitors seeking winter outdoor experience.

Meanwhile, Thailand's northern region is facing the freezing cold weather, as temperatures have dipped below the freezing point in mountainous areas of Chiang Mai, for instance.

Temperatures at the Inthanont Mount have dropped to minus 1 degree Celsius. So, the international tourists camping overnight on the hilltop have enjoyed a rare frost--which has turned the park into winter scenery.

Park authorities have warned international visitors to keep themselves warm, as temperatures at night may drop to a minimum of minus 10 degree Celsius.
