    Bees in dramatic decline

Following the thread of the snake, this is another such...

    Who will pollinate our flowers?

Small animals but seems that if they are no more, lots of species will not survive as well, specially flowers and food and fruits at risk...

    Seen any around?

I like bees and although I'm in the UK at the moment, a couple of people in Thailand have told me there are many bees (chiang mai & bkk).

I think they have all taken home at my place.

Nedwalk had one out of my pool the other day and it has now gone to the snake pit in the sky.

Ned likes beer but hates snakes.

The bees are dying because Monsanto is killing them with their Roundup Ready GMO crops.

^ yep, just seen a report about a couple that took over a vineyard in France.

They were surprised not to hear any bird around the place, so started to go more bio with the grapes, much less or no chemicals,
Couple years later, now, they got plenty of birds, rabbits and life that was not around earlier

    Colony Collapse Disorder vs GMO

There are certainly major concerns around bee disappearances. Lots of research going on into what's called Colony Collapse Disorder or Hive Collapse Disorder. I've seen suggestions that it's fungal, others say viral.

GMO plants may pose a danger, but I think there's a lot of hyperbole around the GMO fears. Genetically Modified Plants can harm bees (and other animals/plants/organisms) in two ways: When DNA to produce actual insecticidal chemicals is inserted into the plants this is obviously a direct attack on the bees/other insects that feed on the plants. The more common way is plants like the "Round-Up Ready" varieties that are resistant to pesticides. This means farmers can dump pesticides onto the plants in ever increasing quantities...leading to dangers to bees and us.

Don't get me wrong, I'm for GMO. I think there are real possibilities there and a good chance to feed our ever growing population with less chemicals etc. And I haven't seen any evidence that GMO is affecting the bees, or other pollinators, but it's something to watch.

The proof is obvious that one of the major reasons of the bees’ decline is by the ingestion of GMO proteins.

    Evil GMO.

    Mid, Thanks for the link.

I'll have to read it indepth.

At first glance, my biggest concern is that "GlobalResearch.ca : Centre for Research on Globalization" isn't about research, but is rather about a specific agenda. Looks like a left, touchy-feely agenda. (I'm pretty left on most things, but think the left gets crazy with gmo and some other food related stuff. The left refuses to see that everything is a balance. Is farmed salmon good for the ocean? Probably not. Is it better than wiping out wild stocks? I think so. Growing beef isn't good for deer, antelope, tigers etc, but by concentrating our farming, it may be possible to save some of the wild spaces needed by tigers, etc. Rather than putting nets on one side of the forest and beating the bushes to catch everything in it and only eating the choice bits, letting everything else die {which is what a lot of ocean fishing basically does}.)

Sorry, that got out of hand. I was saying, the article does have foot notes (some of which point to other leftist groups, like "alternet"), so that's a good thing, there may be a strong case lurking in there.

fair enough , either way the demise of bee stocks is not something we will laugh off , so we'd be well served to find the answer .
