    The Can can

The local Can has a good saw, it was a Still 760 I think but looked like they dropped it off the back of a truck, motor not work so they hooked up a 9" grinder to the blade to carve up teak butts for furniture will post photo's when I can. A 9" grinder is dangerous enough so why not bolt on a 1 metre chain saw!!!!! only in thailand, cause electricity cheaper and quiet too if you have a gen set

The local hardware has a small Still chainsaw, but the prison don't look good from inside

If you are keen, buy one in Laos and bring it back over.

i had a mate who brought one in, no plomplem.
he heard they needed licensing and went off to the local cop-shop to try comply with the law. he was told there was no such thing as a license, could cut down whatever he wanted to if it was on his own property, and as long as it was not a protected species.(apparently you need to have a permit to fell teak).
he double-checked with the "dam-roodt-tammachaad" (conservation police?), and got the same story.
i do not know what the official stance is, or if these buggers just make up the rules as they go along, better to try find out from a lawyer who knows the rules, then tell the local cops who are looking for bribes to fukkoff!
plenty chainsaws for sale all over issaan.

Not banned but licensed, illegal to own, illegal to use without the license.
Pretty well said what needed to be said.

Getting a chain saw into Thailand ain't the problem as long as a fellow is willing to use some common sense.

However, your farm can be in the middle of the deepest, darkest part of Thailand and once you fire your chain saw up, you will have visitors. Then it can be expensive. Trust me on this one...
Totally incorrect. You can buy in a lot of hardwares and without a licence. Seeing as I use one constantly including today I must dispute this statementl. I also imported this one legally.

They did away with the chainsaw licensing/prohibition a while back I think.

But a decent bow saw and get a lad from the village for 150 baht and a bottle of lao khao to use it when you want to cut logs - no potential problems and you are supporting the local economy and making 'Merit' !!
