Catnip: Somebody help my cat get baked.

My cat has been pretty cool lately, so I thought I would reward it with a little catnip. This herb grows wild everywhere back home, but I didn't know where to find some in Thailand. I went to a number of pet stores to buy a box, but the vendors looked at my like I was crazy. They didn't have a clue about what I wanted.

And on a touchy note: Thai pet stores are totally biased toward dogs. They have all types of clothing and dog toys. But, almost nothing for cats except for food. However, that rant should be put aside for now. I am really on a quest for cat nip.

My next step, was to try to grow some cat nip on my own. But, nobody out there seems to have any seeds. The herb should be able to survive in Thailand. Why is it so difficult to track down? I thought that I might be able to locate some catnip tea at one of the Chinese medical shops. So far no luck. Is there a Thai word for "catnip". Does anybody know where I can find some for my cat?

Ken, how would you feel about adopting another cat? KingWilly's cat is looking for a new home.

I don't think I can take your cat KW the missus wants it but I am a bit worried about it.

NOt sure how long I will be staying here.

Not even sure if it would like the garden if it is a house cat.

I can't. I just found out I have to find a new place to live by the end of the month. It is sort of a disaster, really. My new neighbor and I spent a lot of time and energy fixing up our yard. I must have put in over 50 hours of hard physical labour in (moving pots, lifting plants, constructing flower beds, digging tree wells, brick laying and other stone work). I am talking serious landscaping. My neighbor painted his house and spent big bucks on bamboo curtains and other supplies to improve his house. We saw this as an investment because we enjoyed spending time in the yard.

The landlord also saw the beauty in all our home improvements. Therefore, she turned around and sold the property. It wasn't even on the market for more than four days. I came home yesterday and a group of strange Thais were hanging around my yard. They had opened up all the doors to our apartment and were walking around inside. Nobody mentioned any of this in advance. The landlady never mentioned a single word about selling the place, she even allowed my neighbor to move in earlier this month without telling him. Now she is driving around town with a big smile on her face, and we are stuck trying to find a new place to move into.

Shit like this makes me want to start applying for jobs in Japan.

Knowing it's Thailand, I guess this is possible, but in most countries you cannot sell a property out from under a renter without the new owner taking on the obligation. Also, it's illegal for the landlord to just come in and poke around without any notice. Sorry to hear about that.

I surfed some of the Thai chat sites and found a discussion of catnip. One on Pantip called it 'catmint', said it was rare, and used the Thai word ต้นไม้ชนิดหนึ่งมีกลิ่นดึงดูดแมว. Doesn't seem very short, but is somewhat descriptive.

Go to the intersection of Petchaburi road and Soi Ekkamai, where Foodland is on one side, Charn Isaara II building is on the other side with Klong Tan railway station opposite. The second last shop before the station is a pet shop, he has catnip in there.

Afterwards walk further along under the flyover past Foodland and just after the footbridge is a large pet shop. They have hamster, rabbits snakes and other beasts but they are the only shop in Bangkok to stock the imported German wooden pine cat litter which is the only odourless litter on the market. It is the only litter that absorbs the ammonia from cats urine.
