Being a rice farmer in the Rice Bowl of Asia

This morning I got a phone that let me know I was now the proud owner of about 50 rai of rice land. The only good thing so far is that it is close to our resort.

My knowledge of rice farming might fill a rice bowl...

Initially, I was thinking about organic rice but the wife says it is to expensive. She also said that this rice farm would be for our retirement. Yea, if I retire at the age of 90.

So come on rice farmers and help me out.

Good for you hillbilly Nothing to it. Doesn't matter where you reside in the provinces, everyone knows rice. Surely, if your not confident in your knowledge and skills - go to the family or your surrounding community. I think you could receive some advice and help from this source. Even if you have to completely hire out the whole process {from planting to harvest} for a couple of seasons whilst you learn.....then take it from there. Good luck to ya!

We are doing the same soon....when we eventually move.

Not growing rice for the sake of an income or anything like that, but growing it to eat, growing it so I know what goes into the food that my family live on and learning what other things can be done along the way to improve it, different types of rice, different growing methods, improving yields and other things that can be grown with it. Other crops can be grown on the banks and fish of certain types can be raised in the irrigation waters.

Combine all this with wanting to use irrigation to crop 2 or 3 times per year and also all of this at the same time as providing my most important factor.....giving me a year round aesthetic green garden around the entire home. Landscaping paid for by rice.

    Hope it works.
I like poisoning my neighbours dogs till they die cos I'm a cnut
