Thread: Aquariums (where to buy)

anybody have good contacts / tips / advice for purchasing / building large aquariums or outdoor fish ponds (with viewing window) in Thailand. For ornamental fish.. not farming. as part of our yard landscaping or in our home. Thinking of something in the range of 3mx2m x 1m tall approximately. keeping FW fish such as FW stingrays / gars / knifefish / spiny eels / tigerfish, etc. not fancy resort-style high end installations.. more DIY type for the fish hobby nerd.

I have always been an avid FW aquarium and fishkeeping nerd in U.S. .. have not kept fish in about 10years or so but want to get back into the hobby when i retire to thailand in a couple years. Hoping to meet others into keeping similar fish..get ideas, get contacts, etc for both the aquariums and the fish.

Years ago we bought our indoor aquarium from a place on the junction, just over Highway 2 from Terminal 21. Parking is impossible, especially with the new tunnelling project and I've found the easiest way to visit the shop is to park in Terminal 21 and walk across the footbridge over Highway 2. The aquarium shop is just at the end of the footbridge.

I have no idea if they stock the species you are after but it could be a good starting point. They custom built our tank (approx. 1.2m by 0.6m by 0.5m) to fit some wooden furniture and I expect they could build you a tank to your specifications, and supply the equipment needed. Our tank was built 17 years ago and we've had no problems, other than the usual wear and tear of pumps.
