Thread: Well...It's been a while. What have we been up to? (Part1 - We became Duck Farmers!)

TD great to see you back, i have yet to decide what to do when i retire. Its been a quandry for some 10 years and i'm still not really any nearer. Do I

1. Go all JPPR and have a load of maintenance to do on our final resting place.
2. Work with Mrs Toot in some small business as a hobby, although she tells me she has spent 15 years building "rooms" not to work past 55.
3. Become her general maintenance bloke on her rental properties (or knocking shops as Dill like to call them).
4. Give up life and play golf.
5. Inflate my existing interests into something approaching a fulltime job.
6. Sit and drink all day and turn retirement into a one year project.
7. Build another house, sell it and build another house, rinse and repeat until i am unable to do it any more.
8. Become a fulltime tourist instead of 4 months in UK and 6-8 in Thailand.
9. Take up Teaching and get around having to keep 400K in Thailand and take silly pics of me and Mrs Toot around our gaff .
10. Become a proper Buddhist and harbour a seething grudge against a neighbour, buy a gun and inexplicably one night go postal and shoot up a noodle stall and its customers when someone asks if i'd like pepsi instead of coke then return home wing the neighbour leaving a bullet lodged in his Fortuner and spend 15 hours in a stand off with 75 police. Appear on channel 3 with a balaclava and sun glasses pointing at the Fortuner and spend the remaining time on this earth enjoying Jok and a regular reaming.

the good news is Mrs Toot already dabbled in livestock as a hobby and one thing i learnt is it is a lot of effort and smelly

It's good to be back, thanks! Lol... you had me chuckling with this one! err... all of the above? No cant do that, so... whatever takes your fancy. the life-long 'what i will do when i retire' dream? nothing wrong with a spot of golf, and even some part time work. just got to be careful with breaching the visa conditions. people have been deported for 'working' ie helping the spouse so just ...be aware. Definitely pass on endless new builds - that's hard work and stress which will put you in the box sooner rather than later! also... you never get to put the roots down and enjoy life in the house you built, if it keeps changing.TD Towers was a big build (I think we can agree on that based on the book-sized thread!) but would i do it again? no way. this is it and we will live in it until me/she/we croak.

I share your enthusiasm for livestock - if ducks are anything to go by. too much dependency and commitment. Its her enterprise, really and i think she's coming round to the same way of thinking.

the 'duck thread' was only one of a few i was going to do but i think to speed the update up i will amalgamate the next thread to cover the rest of the 'we became...' story. that will leave the garden update, ooooh lots of pics for that one, and my last thread which might surprise a few. Sure surprised me, both me doing it and how far its got. (no... it's not 'We became... robbers', with a take of a drunken gold shop robbery and a shoot up in the mall. it was considered and passed over... no...my last update is something else!).

Nothing wrong with a bit of touring round. i want to do this also, and include touring in other countries. we have been trying to go to Japan for 4 years but covid and then other commitments got in the way. Maybe this year.

I had ideas to go back to work on short term 1-2 month contracts for enabling works before a full-0time HSE Manager took the project over for 2-3 years but now I'm thinking...i do not even want to do that. I am too old, lol. its enough for me to help her with her various projects and look after my garden, too. Plus I am slowly doing things around the actual house as we get everything completed. the emphasis is on the word 'slowly'!

I never thought of teaching - i know you dont need to be qualified in any way and it's permissible to use the cane on unruly kids in Thailand (well... officially it isn't but that did not stop one teacher in Phanat Nikhom giving 'the ruler' toi every child in the class, including my daughter) so maybe i could do teaching. Most of my old Gf's said I'm a good teacher and the cane came into play with them too, so maybe just maybe i have found my new vocation. What I like about teaching, maybe you do too, is the hours. or lack of. start late, long lunches, finish early and super long holidays, and 100,000THB / month to boot. i think it tax-free, too? it's a pretty good, and easy job, I think.

i think I wrote enough, and I hope you detect the humour in some of it. lol which bit, though!? time for me to do the next thread !
