The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
I think what's important to understand is individual capabilities.
While cutting down a tree like Tunk did is admirable, bottomline does it make sense? I have a Dewalt Sawzall and have used it many times but I would never use it to cut down a tree. In the end there has to be a risk versus cost. To spend hours and hours to cut a tree down yourself has a cost and risk associated with it. Sure it's nice to say you cut it down yourself but for $50 or $60? Really?
Of course you own a Sawsall, there is nothing you don't own, nothing your money can not buy...except skill. You have all the tools hanging on the shop wall like trophys, but you have no skill. You like to talk the talk, you are a damn good bullshitter. But when it comes time to walk the walk you sit in the shade and sip a cold drink. You buy a huge ass tree, hire a Thai man to plant the tree, and then bitch because your FIL doesn't take care of the tree. You build a mansion and then try to buy your happiness, if I just had a crotch rocket I'd be happy, no I need that new SUV to be happy, and a 56" TV, if I just had that Smart watch then I would be happy, and of course you need a pool. You worship money. Then you walk out the gate and are too cheap to throw a bone to a street dog WTF kind of man are you ? Go so far as to tell your wife go bitch at the old woman on the corner, tell her to stop feeding street dogs. You show a picture of a grill big enough to grill a whole pig, with one lonely steak out in the middle because you are too cheap to buy USDA for your wife and FIL. What kind of man are you? There will always be people that suck up to a rich man. I am not one of them, your money don't mean shit to me snowflake. Now FO back to your pool thread.
Nobody cuts down a tree like that with a Sawsall.
Unless they haven't got better things to do
I'm amazed/impressed that you did that
I would not expect your average man to take on that tree with a Sawsall. Many weekend warriors own a Sawsall, but they are far from being professional. An HVAC man is a professional, the saw was invented for us.
Was a good effort. Having a bit of luck probably helped!
As for sawing that log, there is bound to be a guy nearby who has a chainsaw with a very long bar/chain and a jig setup which he uses to rough cut board. The local guy does it full time. Here the local handy man has a fair size planer and he can do fairly long lengths of board up to around 30 inch in width.
Good thing there were no spirits living in the tree! We had a huge tree taken down when we built a road and there was a brief discussion about that before they put it down.
When I was taught to use a chain saw one of the many things I was instructed never to do was to work above ground level. That requires greater expertise, which I respect. Having followed that instruction I have survived long enough to know that my tree felling days are now over.
One day, so long as the next falling log is as kind as the last, you will grow old enough and wise enough to accept that some tasks are better delegated.
