Wow, after reading all the suggestions, must say you came up with a real nice solution there.
Seen that type of construction used in aquaponics a lot.
In case you would see any bending outwards of the side panels, bury them by putting sand against the walls.
Good luck.. curious to see them filled up.
Thanks for the complement but until we add about 65 cm of water it will still be a mystery. We got a roll of plastic liner from Thaiwatsadu and cut it to length then glued another piece on sat it in and added 10cm of water and found a leak next day! Took it out and will add a strip over the join today then let it sit overnight.. Tomorrow we check for holes. If no holes it can go back in.
The 0.15mm plastic is not what I wanted but it was only after we bought the roll at Thaiwatsadu I discovered another company that can supply the real deal in thickness more suitable for our needs. Link to SVC website: ตาข่ายกรองแสง พลาสติกปูบ่อ พลาสติกกันชื้น แสลน
Well...it turned out there were to many holes so we cut and glued another liner. Photos from yesterday with 2000L going in. I needed a rain free night to check around the base in the morning for leaks. Of course it pissed down like there is no tomorrow! Maybe it will be dry enough tonight to check for leaks.
After we finished cut and gluing liner 2 we discovered another place (now 2 links) where they can supply liners in one piece...and thicker up to .75mm. And it turns out the best way to do the join is hot melt glue. I thought they were pulling my leg so I tested it out on some scrap LHPE plastic sheet...and it damn well stuck 3 times as good as the contact adhesive! Next liner gets hot melt glue as there is way less distortion in the plastic sheet.
Hot Melt Glue!! Now that's something to keep in mind, thanks for the tip!
Had the same problem lining the pond at my brother's house. Lot's of swearing and sweating getting that done.
For the liner you use, I had that first as well. Rats became a problem. They jump in for food and then use there claws/nails to climb out, pinching tiny holes in the liner.
Went back to what I used before, the covers they use on trailers/trucks. Very strong, it's woven stuff, and waterproof. Just cut away the seams and metal rings.
To make sure the rats couldn't get in, I also covered the pond with frames with a wire-mesh.
Cheers,
Luc
Thanks for the tip. A lot of the USA websites I visited were using a rubber based liner and rubber based double sided tape to join it. Managed to get a printers roller today to roll the hot melt...but I think you need an offsider to roll as soon as you dispense the hot melt glue so it is spread before it cools.
The rubber tape.. yes, had a couple dozen rolls I took from the disposal container at work years ago. They where used in Telcom base stations to waterproof connections. Still got a few.. Magic stuff, it sticks and then it's just becoming one seamless joint with the material. Very good stuff.
Well the second liner is heading for the trash basket! We were very careful handling the second liner but it has pinholes in several dozen places which I suspect is from the plastic sheet on the roll being poorly made. Thanks for nothing Global House! Used a different method to check the liner this time which allowed for a better examination using sunlight instead of a compact floodlight. Will call SCV-plastic today and organise a one piece liner in 500 micron size.
I can feel your frustration.. been there done that...sigh.
Did you check on truck cargo liners?
That's the type of liner I use.. tried and got burned with other types. This one is the only one I'm using now.
It's super strong, easy to install and lasts forever. They got them in a lot of different colors, white, blue, green, black etc.
Don't order them online though.
I get mine from Talat Thai north of Bangkok, but I'm sure there's shops around Thailand selling them.
For the pond at my brother's house I paid 2000 Baht or so (6x4m size).
Good luck.
Luc
Haven't checked on that material yet. We off to Muang Phi Chit on Monday so we will endeavor to find a tarp place or talk to some truck drivers to see what gives.
I am interested as the truck tarps I have seen are decent thickness and size is no problem as some of those cap tarps are 6 or 7 metres wide.
There is a seller on Farcebook but I am not sure if it's the right stuff. วาณีค้าวัสดุ ผ้าร่ม ผ้าใบกันน้ำ ผ้าแอร์แบค @waneekshop
Check for shops where they sell those big plastic tubs.
The ones used in markets for iced storage.
And of course the tent-shops. They're also used for those event-tents. Your local temple might know where to get them.
They're indeed thick, and they've got nylon or some other thread woven into them so you're not going to get problems easily with tearing.
Good luck.
Luc
I checked this lot out as a matter of interest " วาณีค้าวัสดุ ผ้าร่ม ผ้าใบกันน้ำ ผ้าแอร์แบค @waneekshop" but will give em a miss as their farang tax makes the price 2.5 times higher than their competitor!
