    Fox Tail (Queen Anne) Palm

There's a number of Fox Tail Palms on the property pumping out seed pods like crazy this year. My question to those who might know is what's the procedure for germinating these seeds?

Mock Praw (Palm) are typically slow growers from my experience so imagine it'll be a number of years before I'll see an actual tree from these seeds.

    Cheers in advance

Queen Palm 23 months after germination

That place in Florida sure is proud of their trees. $299.95 each!

Sounds as though you could let the seed fall on the ground and they will germinate if there is enough water. I've a Christmas light palm which drops seeds and makes little palms all underneath. I'm forever pulling them up. If someone wants one, I dig a little seedling out for replanting.

You know, these Fox Tail Palms also known as Queen Anne Palms look quite a bit like what's called 'Royal Palms'

I don't even believe that the two belong to the same botanical family, Boons...

Royals are a much different [coconut] palm and more prolific.

    For what it is worth:
A mate in Atlanta told me his palms were not growing too well and he'd asked advice. Was told they were planted too deep and should show some roots above ground level. He lifted his and they took off so he says.

i think you might be mistakes as i don't think they are fox tail palms, Foxtail Palm (Wodyetia Bifurcata), is an Australian native palm quite rare outside of Australia.

A few weeks after we returned to live back in Thailand in 2007, the headmaster of a local school gave my wife 5 very small pots of Fox Tail palms, they were about 15 inches high. She watered and looked after them and when they were 2 foot or so high I planted them. Today they are about 6 meters tall.

Three years later we asked if the school had any more Palm plants, but they has stopped growing them, but we could have as many seeds as we wanted. So we went to the school and picked up bright red seeds lying on the ground. These we put into potting plastic bags with the point of the seed going up. These grew slowly and again at 2 foot height I planted 7 of them. Around 2010 from memory. They grew very slowly but after 3 years they took off and today are well over 3 meters in height.

It would seem they are slow to develop into trees but do shoot away once established.
All the trees have roots near or above ground level. They seem to like water in the dry times.
At Singburi hospital they had some giants on the front lawn at least 30 plus meters tall and wide trunks. They cut them down to build a new wing.....sad as I loved them, the biggest I had seen.

Bought 4 about 3 metre specimens ( about 1k baht ea methinks) a few years back ..all died except one which is still a pathetic 3-4m...planted betel nut and sprouting coconuts and a lipstick stick in a pot about the same time..all thriving. Betels must be about 14 metres..Bought some dinky palm in a pot about 1/2 meter..thing is now huge over 10m methinks..beaut no idea what...
Just love palms...have one coconut only about 5 metres with prolific coconuts...have probably 20 odd others over 10 metres..not one frickin coconut but beautiful foliage...Lots of other palms around the farm no idea what types 555.
