Thread: Black (Silk) Chickens

Thinking of farming chickens and make a try with Black / Silk chickens. Been surfing a lot but cannot find where to buy. Anybody know where, pls help. And btw, help about chicken (and pigs, sheep) farming in general appreciated (since I am a "computer guy)

When I was in Thailand I found it virtually impossible to find pure breed Chickens for sale.

I have never heard of a strain called black silk only black silkies which are bantams that some keep for show mainly.
No good for farming although they tend to be constantly broody so are handy for hatching other eggs.

Best of luck with it be interesting to hear what advice you get.

When my missus was nursing our darling brood she was recommended to eat more black chicken as it supposedly helped her produce more milk, she hated the taste though and that's saying something as being Chinese she eats just about anything. But they were black skin and meat not sure if that's the chickens you're referring to and while they aren't live it may support your contention they are available. I'd ask local markets and such sometimes people will even act as an agent for you, to help locate them.

but i do know a guy that will send you fertile eggs in the mail....and cheap too,, about 250 baht for a dozen,,this is 21,, or 22,, cheers
