    Question Carpentaria palms

    Hi, Do you know where I can buy Carpentaria palms (Carpentaria acuminata) Carpentaria acuminata - Pacsoa
    in or around Bangkok?
    I want about 20, preferably, sun hardened trees 1 - 1.5 meters tall. I'll take seedlings if older trees aren't available.
    They will have to be in pots along a narrow alley on the northeast side of the house.

    I guess they will do OK in Bangkok but I have not seen many in Thailand, anyone have experience with em?

    Why Carpentaria's? They are elegant, fast growing, the trunk is slender (limited space) and they remind me of the Northern Territory, Australia.

    Can't help you with any recommendations but in Thai they're called ปาล์มน้ำพุ - pam nam phu ('pam' as in palm but with the same initial consonant as the Thai for fish, 'nam' as in water and 'phu' has a short vowel). There are some sellers listed at http://www.nanagarden.com/%E0%B8%9B%...B8%5E1-11.html

    hmmm thought the ones we bought were Foxtail palms but seems looking at your link and out the window they are not. Ours were bought from a market in NS Thammarrat which had come from Bangkok so you should not have any trouble finding them. We bought three 2 metre trees two died from termites ...one still growing but very slowly...at about 3.5 meters after 8 years.
    We have about a dozen Betel palms grown from seed about 8 years ago ...very attractive cost nothing and most are over 3m now.

    Thanks for the tip Zooheekock, we found a nursery in Minburi.
    One week and 15k later there are 20 (3 to 4 meter) trees, in pots, in place.

    Crepitas, Two points;
    I'd be surprised if Carpentaria palms are affected by termites.
    The NT (Australia) is termite heaven. I have not seen any Carpentarias damaged by termites in the NT.

    Carpentaria palms grow fast. They shed fronds, produce and drop seeds regularly.

    Are you sure you have Carpentarias?

    Of course your point about the price of Betelnut palms is valid.
