    Govt buffalo progamme

Seems the govt have started a new progamme up here giving buffaloes to locals, same as cow progamme, when the buffalo has its first born you have to give first born back to govt.

Hopefully not same as the cow fiasco.

Ahh that's why they are doing it then? They using the rice money to pay for it, or are they going to pay that back in full, and then get into more debt with this scheme?

Where are they getting the buffalo from? I wonder which of the government has a buffalo herd he wants to sell at inflated prices...

One wonders what is the purpose of owning a buffalo...seems they mostly use 'em for fights down here? I guess there are still farmers who use 'em for farm work?

I wondered the same about the cows, and how the prices of hideous cows went through the roof and then hit rock bottom.

They do that where I live almost every year. In the past they've given cat fish, ducks, chickens..........but you had to choose from the selection on offer. Now I believe they're telling people what they can have.

That one's always boggled me, too. Never seen them used on farmland around Boringiram.

Everyone uses tractors, owned or rented....

    Do they eat them?

This buffalo programme has been running for years.

You receive a free buffalo which is then used to breed. The first calf has to be handed back and is then given on to someone else. Second and subsequent calves can be kept, and either used to build a herd or sold.

I know someone who now has a one-and a half year old calf which she expects to hand over soon, plus a three month old calf which is hers to keep.

I have no idea what they do with the buffalo. This dear old lady will probably sell her second calf. I have also yet to fathom what you are supposed to do if given a bull although I suppose it is possible the owners of the cows are paying for the bulls' services.
I see fish. They are everywhere. They don't know they are fish.

I guess this is not a new programme but recycled politicking.
Just do not know why this YS just don't give up.! Most of her programmes are never fulfilled 100%.

Whilst I do agree that Yingluck is no leader, I do recognize the difference between Thaksin and Abhisit.

Yes, Thaksin had several schemes which were not fully successful. A few succeeded and some failed. That is life, and also business. You give up with the failures, promote the successes and things move forward.

Abhisit's continual pointing at Thaksin's failures disguises one very sad fact about his own tenure as PM. He did absolutely nothing apart from shufffle paper and try to look busy. At least nobody can point out any Abhisit failures.

You pay your money and take your choice. Have the country run by a businessman or a bureaucrat.

I think "opportunist" is the polite term for Thaksin.

I now have it from the source. The buffalo are being eaten, much the same as beef.

Maybe they have to restock all those dead buffaloes the Farang bought.

Is this Buffalo program currently open? The less educated Brother in law did participate in the frog program that was funded by the Thai government.

I've seen buffalo, between rich planting seasons, on the fields, eating grass and crapping a lot; seemed like a good way of gardening and fertilizing for free...

There was a time when a large herd of Buffaloes meant wealth to Thais, now they have been replaced By Buffalo Farang.

How many buffalo are you worth.
A new tractor paid for by you may be a benchmark.
