Thai/Chinese, they take a long term view, land is life.
We get 25 year mortgages for homes, have pension schemes, Asia, land and gold, after the GFC, they may be right.
Banks etc are bits of data, but it's your money or super/private pension, if the banks lose your money, not much you can do. Have land, its yours, banks can't lose it, world goes to shit again, you won't be hungry, sleeping under a bridge.

I retired 52, rubber, could have worked to 65 [maybe] house, dog food and baked bean pension, land is safe, barring divorce. Jim

I don't see Thai/Chinese as being farmers. They're more into business. The Thai/Chinese building supplier where I live never buys land unless it's prime location on the main road running through the center of the village.

Yes Thai/Chinese may buy farm land but only if it's a fast turn around. But farm it, no. They like the feel of money, not dirt.

Not farmers, but with the introduction of issuing charnotes on crown lands, they can now hold large tracks of land. Smart Thais know this, thus pushing up prices.

My area a mixture of Lao mountain people and ethnic Chinese from northern Vietnam 200 years ago [ now very Thai ] they want the land. They were farmers, but now hire workers, things are changing, a full rice bowl is no longer the goal.

As I posted before, know a Thai/Chinese guy, rich family, paid 25 mil for 100 rai operating rubber plantation. I said you will never get your money back on that.
He said no, but my children and their children will.

First world is coming, Thailand is a newly industrialize nation, how many farmers in the UK 100 years ago, just happening faster here. Jim
