    Monster Grubs - Identify?

I just turned out a bag of potting soil to find about ten of these guys wiggling around.

They're eating machines as they have turned that bag of media into grub poo.

Anyone have any idea what they are? Would hate to throw them out if they will morph into some interesting insect.

They are too ugly. I didn't even want to pick them up with my hands least one chomp down on my finger in the feeding frenzy. Eating and pooping machines, these things are.

These beetles' larval stages can be several years long. The larvae feed on rotten wood and the adults feed on nectar, plant sap and fruit. First, the larvae hatch from eggs and later develop into pupae before they reach adult status. The females lay 50 eggs on average. Contrary to what their size may imply, adult rhinoceros beetles do not eat large amounts, unlike their larvae, which eat a significant amount of rotting wood.

The rhino beetle care sheet says if supplemented with dog food they will grow even bigger.

    Thanks for that Necron.

    Oh, my. Years.

I will not be eating them!

^ They're a bush delicacy when grilled. I bet Terry and Necron have shared a few in the outback in the back of Terry's camper van

They are very common in Australia, they are the larvae of a stag beetle. Sometimes they are mistakenly called Bardi Grubs, but Bardi Grubs are bigger.

We do not eat larvae of Rhino beetle.

We eat larvar of another beetle, the Red palm weevil, Red-stripes palm weevil, Asian palm weevil or Sago palm weevil.
The scientific name is Rhynchophorus ferrugineus.

Normally this beetle grows in coconut like palm tree called Metroxylon sagu.

We grow this beetle and gets good income.

Farming Sago palm weevil is popular in the South because there are Sago palm for feeding.
I grow mushroom in Saraburi. I plan to feed this larvae with spent musroom substrate.
