Never happens where I live, James you must live in a very anal area.
Or perhaps one's experiences are limited/selected, as in the case of Jim - and others.
Ummm....more often than, Bangkok doesn't supersede [nor interfere with] local maintained mandates, be it societal, Mafia, Baan, Tambon, Amphoe, or Provincial situations. There are exceptions, where the "Federal" steps in - usually has associations with substantial profits or control.

Only cuz the fcukers know they can run ride roughshod, when it comes to putting one over, on the stupid rural Thais peasants. All they have to do is get a lawyer and all those stupid village laws are a joke.Originally Posted by thaimeme

So, finally got a price locally on all that lumber i see on trucks lately.
Old boy up the road just chopped 7 rai of big mature (25+ years old) trees. He got 100k...
yes but he can now grow a worth while crop with good returns and so much less effort. like sugar cane if the soil is good enough
100k he may well have got, but to fell 7 Rai, load, and transport them must have knocked a hole in the 100k? Then I suppose he'll have to get a maco in to rip out the stumps. It'd be nice to know what' he'll go into next. Lemon grass integrated between banana trees seems to be gaining ground around here.
The buyers do all the cutting and carting where I live, so just have to remove the stumps, plough and replant.
To be honest Ive only seem one plantation having been ripped out and they were young trees. He replanted with cassava. Seemed like he was going backwards as cassava prices looked to have crashed.
^ Unfortunately the soil is so shit around here that they struggle to grow much, other than cassava and weeds.
The guy has got plenty more good rubber. In front, left and right of the 7 rai chopped. These had come to the end of their working life, been cut and tapped everywhere. They were even using a ladder and tapping 2.5-3m up.
Knowing the old boy, he'll probably stick rubber back in. He's been doing it a lot longer than me.
And yes, he gets 100k in his pocket, just makes sure the trucks, tractors and trailers have access. All labour and costs are covered by the lumber buyer.
Yeah, years ago i was hearing of prices of 40-50k per rai for mature lumber. That was down the Eastern seaboard, Chantaburi etc.
Sold cup at auction a couple of days ago, 24.75 baht per kg.
As said before, gate and auction prices are not the same. Depending on the day or week, prices vary round here from 19 to 23 baht per kg on the gate, so i'm told. Generally 3-4 baht down on an auction price. The ONLY advantage with a gate price is
1. you get paid out there and then.
2. There are no transport costs, they come to you, rather than you go to the auction.
Was just thinking things were looking up, OPEC were cutting oil supply and it stopped raining for 2 days.
Pissing down again, 2 hours, no rubber tonight, just won't stop raining.
Ain't life a bitch for you farmers !, as far as whinge goes the way I see it if you did not whinge you would not be human , all the rubber lads here are saying the same , it never stops pissing down , on top of that the prices are an insult in to what they was a few short years ago , one guy said the other night that he must have fucked a nun and now him above is punishing him .
Hmmm:
Sold cup at 25+THB today…bit depleted as pilferers have been around ..Adjacent farm stripped, our farm just a few rai. Our cutter is now patrolling with his rifle. Told the wife that he should remove any casualties to some other farm…555
