Do we have to worry about the following topic?
globalrubbermarkets.com/50473/china-makes-major-stride-natural-rubber-substitution-development.html
Chinese scientists have made a significant breakthrough in the development of a domestic source of natural rubber, according to the Institute of Genetics and Development Biology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
China makes major stride in natural rubber substitution development
The institute announced on Sept. 3 that it has drafted a high-quality genome sequence, which includes over 46,000 genes, of Taraxacum kok-saghyz, an experimental source of natural rubber more commonly known as Russian dandelion.
The achievement is set to reduce China’s dependency on natural rubber imports. Currently, over 80 percent of the country’s natural rubber is imported. China started to research natural rubber substitutions in 2015.
Sold cup at gate yesterday, 25 baht per kg.
Worry? Not in my lifetime. In the far future ahead, possibly yes.
Europe and the US have been experimenting with dandelions for decades. As you may be aware, grab a dandelion, break the stalk and a white latex type liquid comes out. The problem being, in the West, land, and hence land prices is just too valuable.
Whereas, China is a huge country and would have no problem creating a dandelion field the size of Holland and Belgium combined.
Thx, Thaigguzzi. Since we just started tapping trees I have some question. How many kg did you get per tree in September? We got around 0.8 kg per tree. I'm aware of the rain in the last month. I just want to know, where we are in comparison.
Nevertheless this season its just practicing with some trees (1,300). Next year really counts. Sry for my English.
Dod, question where are you [location] and where did you get the 0.8 kilo per tree number from.
That number sounds like a Thai telling you good things not facts, form my burnt out menory. think the Thai average is just over 3 kilos per tree per year.
Been a long time since we opened trees, can't remember the output first year, but it wasn't much.
Mike {TG} may have kept some numbers, but going on per tree numbers is not how to calculate, some trees produce lots and other give little.
As I say, show me the money, that's what counts.
I'm sure I read somewhere last week that 70 baht was precited for Thai rubber by the end of the year.
Yes, here it is.
Rubber prices become stable and may rise over 70 baht this year - Thai PBS English News
Rubber prices become stable and may rise over 70 baht this year
August 30, 2017
Rubber prices were expected to be more stable this year after Thailand has created a fund to stabilise rubber prices a month ago.
Rubber Authority of Thailand governor Titus Suksaard said rubber prices have stabilised after the creation of the fund with five major rubber exporters.
He said the fund has an initial 1.2 billion baht capital to buy rubber in the market and in rubber futures.
The buying since July has pushed up prices of Grade 3 smoked rubber sheets from 49 baht to 58-60 baht per kilogram.
Although the prices are not high but it indicated stable price increase, he said.
For rubber latex, he said the price is at 52 baht a kilogram.
But he was certain that rubber latex will become another benchmark price of rubber in the market as the rubber authority is planning to extend over 10 billion baht credits to manufacturers to buy rubber latex directly from farmers to produce rubber beddings.
He expected that over 100,000 tons of rubber latex would be absorbed from the market, thus pushing rubber prices to rise over 70 baht per kilogram this year.
Thx, James. The records are made by my wife and me. Financial controlling was my profession and the last years have been really hard training for the Thai family. Simple bookkeeping, number sense and understanding of profit & loss were missing. I changed that. The family has been in rubber business for several years (small amount of trees 1,300) Unfortunately there are no numbers from beginning. Nevertheless just wanted to compare the output figures. Our plantations are in the NE. Last year they started to work together with other growers to get better prices.
Only a typo. They have 1,200 trees and we started tapping 1,300 trees. (700 second year)
Excuse me for saying/asking Dodyai, but you don't have to be clever with numbers to know/see that farming isn't the way to go in Thailand. So why you? :confused:Quote:

Sheet selling at 70 baht is still a shitty price (cup would be around 35-40 baht per kg), but it's better than rock bottom a couple of years ago.
If you don't have rubber trees, or are involved in farming, why are you posting and reading on this sub forum?
Internet café? Coffee shop? Bar or restaurant?
Not a lot of businesses bring in the money close to what a medium sized well run rubber plantation can bring in, once prices have averaged out over a 9-10 month season. Even at today's shitty prices.
Lived in Munich myself for a few years, 79-82. Nice city.
As Jim said, we never have worked on kgs per tree. More kgs per rai or per land parcel, knowing how many trees are on each land parcel. As Jim said again, some trees produce more than others. Output and more importantly DRC will be low the first couple of seasons tapping.
Around here lately, the factories have started encouraging latex sales, they supply the containers and come round to your farm, weigh, test DRC, pay and take away. Only interested in trees 14 years old and up. Somebody we know got paid out 48 baht per kg last week.
Because where I live everyone is involved in farming of some sort. Farming here dictates your way of life. I'm retired with nothing so do so I occupy my self in my surroundings ie farming. I meet farangs that try and make a go of farming here only to see them all fail. That is bar one who got so fed up with the trouble of farming that he employs a company to farm his land.Quote:

@pragmatic
What would you do with much land in Thailand? Since setting up a car factory was too expensive we deciced to go on with farming. We don't want to reinvent the wheel. We just use the knowledge and resources of the family. It was only a matter of business understanding, planing and "thinking about tomorrow today".
Thaiguzzi, thx. 48 baht? Are you still working with the 60/40-split?
I wouldn't bother. Been offered land many times over the years. Always causes problems here one way or another. Each to their own.Quote:

# Yes, always 60/40 split. Only time we changed was when cup prices went below 20 TB per kg a couple of years ago. We then went to 55/45 for a short while to help the workers. Once it hit 20.25 we reverted back to the normal 60/40.
# Very first tap of every season, the first sale is always a 50/50.
Sold cup at gate today, 26 baht per kg.
We have different plantations....

Sold cup at auction yesterday, a pathetic 22.38 baht per kg.
Looks like the wet season is over, 4 days and only a few light showers, about time, hopefully the good tapping days are here again.
Bad prices, but volume makes up the difference, so now until the dorment period comes, life will be good.
Still plenty of rain here in Loei, and more for at least 2 weeks
Sold cup at auction yesterday, a paltry 20.77 baht per kg.
Sold cup at auction yesterday, 20.44 baht per kg.
Sold cup at auction yesterday, 18.95 baht per kg.
Worst price since Jan 2016.
Gone to a 55/45 split with the tappers.
Selling today, gate price 14 Baht, bit of a worry, usually start putting money away for the dormant period this time of year.
Read Thai hua is closing down one factory, it can't produce block at a profit and 3 auction warehouses have shut up shop, government says for re furbishing, but who invests in a down market.
Will be OK as long as the tappers don't head off to other jobs, made a deal 50/50 at 15 Baht and below, they seem happy for now.
Another bad sign of things happening, went to Lao today, Chong Mek, just south of there is/was a large state of the art sheet rubbber factory, had a walk through when they opened about 2 years ago.
Big place, gas fired air drying sheds all computerised, place is shut down now.
Sold cup at auction yesterday, 20.40 baht per kg.
Gone back to a 60/40 split with the tappers.
Sold cup at auction yesterday, 20.10 baht per kg.

Back to a 55/45 split.
Two more sales, then our season is over.
Sold cup at auction yesterday, 20.85 baht per kg.
Back to a 60/40 split.
