^ I spent over 3 years in Nepal much of which is rural and despite growing road infrastructure much of the country above 2000m is served by tracks. Almost all that cannot be grown or made in villages is transported by donkey train or as your picture shows by one man freight companies. I ventured far and wide and saw much of this on one occasion I stopped as a periodic rest point the have on these trails and was joined by a chap who was 63 years old, the pack sits on a frame called a doku and his pack was 90 Kgs. He is paid by weight and journey length and was 2 days into his 2 and a half day trip in his flip flops.
I tried lifting it, the technique is a sort of clean and jerk with your forehead and back - I got the thing up but had a nasty cracking/grinding noise from my neck, no way could I have carried on up the trail. Hats off to them and I don't envy that as a career.
No one told them about wheels?
