Jenson Button wins Australian Grand Prix for McLaren


McLaren's Jenson Button dominated the season-opening Australian Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton finished third.

Button, who qualified second to his team-mate, beat him into the first corner and pulled away to win.

Hamilton lost second place to Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel after an unlucky break with a safety car, and the German was able to hold him off.

Red Bull's Mark Webber was fourth, ahead of the surprisingly quick Ferrari of Fernando Alonso.

Williams driver Pastor Maldonado was on course to take a close sixth, but he lost control while chasing Alonso on the last lap and crashed at the Turn Seven kink.

That handed sixth place to Sauber's Kamui Kobayashi. The Japanese won out in a seven-car fight to the flag.

Chilean diplomat's daughter shot dead in Venezuela

Several police officers have been arrested in Venezuela after the teenage daughter of a Chilean diplomat was shot dead in the western city of Maracaibo.

Karen Berendique, 19, died when police opened fire on the car she was in.

Police say the car - driven by the teenager's brother - failed to stop at a police checkpoint.

The officer in charge of the inquiry, Jose Humberto Ramirez, promised transparency and said a special commission had been set up.

Mr Ramirez said the shooting was an isolated incident which was not representative of the force as a whole.

Police said the officers had been looking for a gang involved in robberies and car thefts.

Ms Berendique's father, Fernando Berendique, who is the Chilean consul in Maracaibo, said his son had been driving his sister to a birthday party.

He said that they came across a police patrol who pointed guns at them, instead of asking them to stop.

The consul said his son panicked and the officers opened fire.

Mr Berendique said the car had six bullet holes in it. His daughter was hit three times.

"My God, what kind of people are they?" he asked.

"It is the product of irresponsibility and the product of a lack of respect for human life here," he said.

"It was the act of some functionaries who did not have a lot of experience and these are the the consequences."

A man was fatally stabbed during a private party at the Norwich home of former world heavyweight boxer Herbie Hide, police said.

Officers were called to Long Lane, Bawburgh, at 00:07 GMT after reports that a man, thought to be in his 20s, had been assaulted.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 00:45. A murder inquiry has started.
More than 100 people are thought to have been at the party at the time of the stabbing.

Mr Hide and his family have relocated as investigations continue.

The Leipzig Book Fair in Leipziz, Germany ends today and it’s expected to draw more than 160,000 visitors enjoying products from 2,071 publishers representing 44 countries. Many of the visitors will wear costumes and participate in cosplay competitions.

Cosplay is an element of many book fairs that feature, comics, magna, or anime. It stands for “costume play,” and it’s the practice of donning costumes and accessories from favorite characters from fantasy and science fiction.
