US house sales fall to six-month low as property market recovery looks distant - Telegraph
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/09/3269.jpg
Sales dropped 2.3pc in August to an annual rate of 295,000, the Commerce Department said. That compares with the 700,000 that economists say must be sold to sustain a healthy US housing market. The median house price also slumped 7.7pc from August 2010 to $209,100 (£134,500), the steepest year-on-year drop since July 2009.
Repossession-driven price decreases on previously owned homes may keep attracting investors away from new properties, limiting any recovery in the construction industry. Tight access to credit, rising unemployment and waning consumer confidence also signal the once-booming property industry will take time to find its footing again.

U.S. Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III strikes a ball from the 16th floor terrace of Trump Tower, 220 yards to a green built on a barge on the Chicago River just past Michigan Avenue, Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, in Chicago. The 2012 Ryder Cup will be at the Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill.
Ryder Cup Captains Davis Love III and Jose Maria Olazabal participated in one of the cooler golf events you'll see in Chicago.
The pro golfers hit balls off the 16th floor Trump Tower Terrace aiming for a golf green built on a barge that floated in the Chicago River.
"It's moving," said a surprised Davis Love III before his first practice shot.
Each of the golfers took three tries at making the 220-yard approach shot.
Both Love III and Olazabal landed one on the green meaning the the Ryder Cup Magnificent Moments campaign will donate $100,000 to the PGA Foundation and Ronald McDonald House Charites of Chicagoland and Northwest, Indiana.
"I can't believe how short it played," Love said. Both golfers used a 7-iron to land the shot.
If they would have hit a hole-in-one the amount would have doubled.
