The mayor of the Colombian capital, Bogota, has been sent to prison pending his trial on corruption charges.
Samuel Moreno Rojas denies accusations that he took bribes to award public works contracts.
Mr Moreno had already been suspended as mayor and expelled from his political party, the opposition Democratic Pole.
The mayor of Bogota is considered Colombia's second most powerful political position after the presidency.
A number of other senior officials and businessmen are also facing trial over the corruption scandal - known as the "contracting carousel".
They include Mr Moreno's brother Ivan, a former senator who also denies wrongdoing.
It is alleged that huge bribes were paid to secure contracts to build roads and other major infrastructure projects in Bogota, some of which were not completed.
Newport Facebook baby hoax teacher banned for two years
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/09/3014.jpg
A teacher who stole baby pictures from Facebook to make her ex-boyfriend think they had a baby has been banned from working in the classroom for two years.
Victoria Jones, 23, kept up the pretence for two years, the General Teaching Council for Wales heard.
She was found guilty of unacceptable professional conduct which she had denied.
The Newport teacher was cleared of compromising her position of trust and bringing the school into disrepute.
Ms Jones, who worked at Ringland Primary School's nursery, admitted taking 82 photographs of a baby girl from the social networking website, the council heard.
She was said to have claimed the baby she called Keira was one of twins - and that her brother, Harrison, born with Down's Syndrome, had died soon after birth.
Ms Jones was accused of weaving "an elaborate web of deceit" to gain revenge on her ex-boyfriend Daniel Barberini, 26, after their 16-month relationship ended.
Head of troubled South Korean bank falls to death
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/09/3015.jpg
The head of a troubled South Korean savings bank has fallen to his death while customers queued outside the building.
Police said the chief executive of the Jeil 2 savings bank, Chung Ku-haeng, appeared to have jumped from his office on the sixth floor.
The government had suspended the bank's operations last Sunday for suspected irregularities.
Mr Chung's body was found on the pavement near the bank's door.
Police officers were quoted as saying that he appeared to have committed suicide, although they said they had not found a suicide note.
The bank's offices had just been raided by investigators looking for evidence of malpractice in risky property deals.
Depositors have been rushing to withdraw their funds from the Jeil 2 bank - and six other small deposit takers - after their operations were suspended on Sunday.
There has been concern that the panic could spread to other banks.
Geithner wants 'decisive signal' from Europe on debt
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/09/3016.jpg
US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has called on European leaders at the G20 in Washington to send a "decisive signal" that they have a strategy for tackling the debt crisis.
Mr Geithner said there had been an erosion of confidence and that there was a "huge premium" on early action.
But he added he was confident that Europe would do what was necessary.
On Thursday, IMF chief Christine Lagarde said collective action was needed to remove economic uncertainty.
UK Chancellor George Osborne has also warned that European leaders have six weeks to end the crisis.
G20 finance ministers are currently meeting in Washington, which is also hosting the annual meeting of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

US soldier jailed for seven years over murders of Afghan civilians | World news | guardian.co.uk
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/09/3032.jpg
A US soldier has been sentenced to seven years in prison for his role in the murders of Afghan civilians last year.
Pvt 1st Class Andrew Holmes, 21, was among five soldiers charged over the "thrill killings" of the three civilians during patrols in Kandahar. The murders have been described as among the most serious war crimes charges to emerge from the Afghanistan war.
Holmes, from Boise, Idaho, confessed in court to firing a heavy machine gun at a boy from 15 feet away, after his co-defendant threw a grenade at him.
He was accused of directly participating in the first killing and initially charged with premeditated murder among other charges.
But in a deal with prosecutors, Holmes pleaded guilty to murder by an inherently dangerous act, as well as possessing a finger bone from his victim and smoking hashish.
Judge Lt Col Kwasi Hawks sentenced him on Friday to seven years in jail, saying there was no excuse for the murder.
"You aimed a fully loaded squad automatic weapon at [a] child that stood 15 feet away," he said.
No comment just news.

Vladimir Putin on course to be Russia's next president as Dmitry Medvedev steps aside - Telegraph
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2011/09/3034.jpg
Vladimir Putin has dispelled months of speculation and confirmed he will return to the Russian presidency next year in a move that cements his already vice-like grip on the world’s largest country.
In a glitzy appearance before thousands of cheering supporters in a Soviet-era football stadium in Moscow, Mr Putin, currently the prime minister, accepted a stage-managed proposal from Dmitry Medvedev, the current president, to run for the presidency on a ticket for the ruling United Russia party in March next year.
"I want to thank you for the positive reaction to the proposal for me to stand for Russian president," said Mr Putin, beaming broadly to loud applause. "For me this is a great honour."
The decision means that Mr Putin, 58, is certain to become the next president of Russia in 2012 as the country remains a de facto one party state, with United Russia controlling the state media and all the key levers of power.
Mr Putin told his followers what Russia watchers had long suspected: that the two men had long ago cut a deal to allow Mr Putin to return to the presidency in 2012 after he was forced to stand down in 2008 on a technicality.
