Sochi 2014: where has the money gone

With the Winter Olympics in Sochi just months away, the 2014 Games are in danger of being remembered not so much for sporting endeavour, but for the controversy surrounding alleged corruption in the construction process, and for Russia's 'gay propaganda' laws. Reuters sent photographer Maxim Shemetov to document the scene in Sochi as construction continues

This alligator mistook a turtle for a rock and casually climbed on board unaware it was climbing onto the dozing turtle. After being woken up the turtle, a yellow-bellied slider, tried to manoeuvre the gator off his shell but it didn't want to budge and somehow stayed on board. The moment was captured by keen photographer Mary Ellen Urbanski, 55, while on a trip to Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge in Townsend in Georgia, USA.

Hungarian wingsuit flier Viktor Kovats jumps off a mountain at Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park in Zhangjiajie in south China's Hunan province. Kovats died during this fatal jump into a gorge in central China.
