King Chulalongkorn inspects the new palace water pumping system, circa 1895
^It seems these are pumps for a warm water system, a wood fueled boiler with chimney on the left.
Steam driven what? And what for steam?
The boiler is obviously for a warm water used for showers (abnaam) in the palace, and perhaps for laundry.
I agree. Steam driven positive displacement reciprocating pumps. Someting similar to here: Steam Driven Pumps You can see the suction line going to the reservoir at the rear of the pumps.
^It seems you are right, sorry for my mistake...

The girl in white standing next to Prince, isn'tshe a falang girl? Perhaps a daughter of a teacher? (Obviously not of Anna Leonowens, she had a boy)
Louis had an elder sister but it seems she spent most of her time in England.
Louis' house in Lampang is open to the public but is in a bad state of disrepair. There are a couple of houses of the same vintage around the corner that have been restored by private owners and they look terrific.
