By 1880, the Chinese communities had dominated [and influenced] commerce and production of every sector throughout Bangkok with the crown's partial blessing....this, too, included "public" transport of the assorted varieties. By the early years of the 20th century, Thais became more dominant and fiercely competitive as it applied to the samlor trade. In time, they shut out the Chinese in these circles completely - almost mafia style.

In particular, the only Chakri house to have obtained up to 20+ palaces and retreats were under Chulalongkorn. From Hua Hin to Phetchaburi.....and everywhere else in between.

Amongst the few that contacted malaria on this trip were King Mongkut and his young Crown Prince Chulalongkorn. Within six weeks, Mongkut passed away from malarial complications....bringing in a new era handed to Chulalongkorn

Far and away [within Siamese and Thai Royal history] the cremation structures for Mongkut were the grandest and monsterous in size. There have been dozens upon dozens of Royal Phra Merus built for the more distinguish - yet nothing can compare to this effort.
