Historically, the Tai Nua [or Dehong Dai] immigrated from Southern China into what is now northern Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar. Settled largely in mountainous areas. The Dai have a closer lingustic relating to what is consider Tai/Thai language. Some suggest that the Proto-Khmer language had integrated with the Southern Chinese ethnic languages....Dai, in particular.
