Actually, there is a part of me that likes Marmites Photoshopped version better.

I have created a Photoshop action to create that effect, I'll run it on the pic and see how my version looks.

It's an image I'd have been proud to have in my album by the way,
You sound like you know far more about the subject than I so I'm pleased to hear that.

Only one of a few, I have my givers and takers on the team. When you are as good looking as I options are easy.

I do have a slot for a Chubby Builder on the team. Jeans that show the crack of your arse are a must. You interested?

if he can sell it as a postcard he should

it does seem so quintessential - even the weather is correct

I did also like nortons shot alot - so much innocence in it

thetyim's is good and quinissentially thai.
i didn't vote for it because it looks like the view I have out of my window every day.

i voted for bustak's because it's the only one in the whole lot I'd like to have as a picture on my wall.
i also voted for frankie's because i could use it as a nice screen saver.

yes CMN, that may be the problem, ricefields out of the window! Or from a verandah, tend to get a bit blase about a view like that

As we all seem to be justifying our votes, I voted for the ones that I liked, liked enough to frame them and bung them up on the wall, consequently I was forced to include my own snap in that equation.

There have been a couple of comments suggesting that I seem to know what I'm talking about, so here's a bit of background.

I went to see the photos at Smethick Photographic Society's international exhibition one christmas because it had been raining for 3 days solid and I wanted to get out. I was amazed at the standard and was hooked. I went to the weekly meetings and was hooked. I had chanced upon the best photographic club in the country (arguably). It had 200+ active members, ie. people going out taking photos every week. It had several Fellows of the Royal Photographic Society and a lot of professional photographers as members. Not just wedding photographers either, there was a wildlife photographer who had several books published and runs trips to the Gallapogos Islands, a top motorsports photographer who was sponsored by Cannon, a spelunker who was the first non chinese to be allowed into some of Chinas big caverns, the list goes on..

I began developing and printing, first in black and white, then colour print from negatives. I normally printed at 16x12 inches and entered international competitions with reasonable success, getting many acceptances plus some highly commendeds. I also obtained my LRPS and was ready to go for my ARPS when I changed jobs and moved away from the area. Since then I've been to a couple of other clubs but they were frankly crap and not worth the effort.

I've become a good photographer (no false modesty here!) thanks to Smethwick PS and along the way learned to look at things properly, to appreciate the small details that pass others by. I've also learned the 'rules' of photography and by sitting at countless club competitions started to understand the elements that make a good photograph and how to look at picture properly and understand what makes them good.

I hope people took my comments on their photos in the right way, which was to make a good picture better. You don't have to agree with what I have said, they are just my opinion and if you don't agree that's fine, it would be nice if you had already thought along the same lines and decided to stick with what you had.

Good point, well presented KW! It also strikes me that when writing a sentence that includes references to education and places of education one should probably utilise a spell checking tool.

    Big Red.

I am new to photography in truth, I wanted to be good with film, but the fact is I have neither the concentration, time nor dedication to be so. The luxury of digital is 'what you did' is all contained in the photo. I still lack time which is why i try to get a shot right at the time rather than have to spend time photoshopping.

I was inspired by other photographers, namely having 3 friends who are at the top of their game. One of them is one of the most accomplished underwater photographers in the world. Before he started we talked about this, and I was the first to get a camera. I was also the first to lose said camera on my second dive with it.

He, being born with real dedication, did it properly and within a few years of starting had won the biggest competitions in the world and was exhibited at both the British National History Museum and the Smithsonian. Later he went on to win Antibes, the trophy being the prized possession of my son.

Last time he visited in Bangkok, I was inspired to buy my latest digital effort and make some attempts to take some decent pics. Digital just suits me, I need instant results. He already taught me some good tricks and as he is visiting shortly, I'm hoping for more. We are going to have a day out and about, and he wants me to take him to where this entry pic was taken, as he likes the pics I took there a lot. Now the competition is over, maybe I will do a thread showing others from that day.

One of the other friends is a travel photographer who amongst other things works for Lonely Planet though to make a living from them would be hard, but he likes the assignments. We met in India in 1987, he inspired me to buy my first SLR. Had fun with it, but for the reasons above it never became the hobby it is now. I spent two days traipsing Bangkok with him whilst he was on a trip last year. Again to learn from people who really know is invaluable.

In short, teach us all something, There are a few posts on this board with regards to photoshopping, they are already a reference tool for me. Lets have some more.....pretty please???

I think it says a lot on its own that Bigred voted for me.

    I should have won.

I should be able to take my special olympics mass murdering girlfriend to that treehouse upcountry at billshills place.

I should be having a romantic steak and chips at timbas with BobsKnob also, but he let me down.

If you had voted for me I would have taken you, but you are such a Grade A cock you couldn't see that.

That's why I spurned your advances last night and went out to hold hands on a Lumpini Park bench with the guy in my picture.

He appeals to my sensitive side.

DD you thought any more about my offer? I want you to be my Bob The Builder.

The three best in my view are Bustak's, Bobcock's and Jasonbalmer's, but I also voted for some others that I liked.

I didn't vote for mine 'cos I'm not a total twat.

Well done everyone just for competing. With the original time constraints on the entries I found it very difficult to find a photo that I had not used on various threads, thus my own effort was very poor. I gave 5 votes for pictures that I enjoyed looking at, and Jason Balmers photo was not amongst those votes. Reason being that in his only thread he had posted pictures of better quality and more impact.
