The thing that made it the shits without giving away too much is that until the day of release we had no idea how long we would be there. It was better than it should have been. But only for 5 people.

I love your stories AO ... one day I'm gonna share a couple with you over a beer. I've got titles worked out already:

    1. "Trippin' in the Jungle" ... a purple microdot trip while hanging out in the black man's section of Olongapo, Philippines.

    2. "Bangin' My Dealers Wife" ... pick up a satchel of herb in Japan, he gets me high and asks my to have sex with his wife.

    3. "Live or Die ?" ... What do you do when two Filipino cops show you what a cold steel barrel feels like on your cheek.

    4. "Man's Search For Pussy" ... a decade of decadence in Washington State.

I believe "How I fell off a ladder while assigned to change a lightbulb" and "Cutting my finger while peeling spuds in the canteen" would be catching titles to share your real life adventures.

Nah I am only interested in stories that are half respectable. Ones that I would let my children read and banging your drug dealers missus is not something I care or am interested about.

Cmon Ao - the suspense is killing me.

The steel doors slammed shut behind us and it was prison. Most of the inmates were behind about 2 meter high wall that separates the prison itself from the administrative side where we were headed. Two things I noticed some prisoners were in blue shirts like the Thai Mor Hom shirts of Chiang Mai, the others had on their own casual shirts on.

One building had people screaming at us out a high window, hey those are women inside a mans prison. Suddenly a voice yelled "hey are you American, we heard about you". Deborah was shocked as it was English and being spoken by a woman. Yes there was a Canandian woman in there. Soon Deborah was whisked away to meet the woman who turned out to be Linda Isreal. I was marched into a room for a meeting with the American consulate in Bali. I was thrilled when I heard the news, at least I would find out something now.

In she walked dressed in black as a muslim. The first I had seen in Bali. "Well you sure have caused me problems this last week" were the first words out of her mouth. " Freaks like you give me a headache was the second sentence. I wanted to fucking hit her. She was Liza from Montana, who had married a Javanese college student 12 years before. Turns out he came from an influential family and she ended up being the asshole honoray consulate in Bali. She did not have to dress as a muslim, I had never seen one in Bali do it. "Hey I did not do a damn thing and now I am in prison, get us out". She laughed, "You did nothing then why did you try to pick up marijuana in Sanur. " "I did nothing of the sort, I sent Deborah in to pick up our mail, and someone sent us the dope" I replied. " "Lying will get you know where Mr. AO". Dammit, "I am not lying I have no idea why this guy would have sent me anything, and its 6 damn grams and I have been behide bars 6 days now get us out" Pretty stupid I was thinking she could do a damn thing. She couldnt and wouldnt. She would even get angry if she had to go with us to court. " So if you cant help me here let me sign over 50 bucks worth of travellers checks so you can be sure my friends know of our plight, and begin to figure out what to do about legal advice" . She did agree to that and was off.

I was led into a cell for about 20 people but nobody else was there, the door closed and that was it. The only light came from where the roof connected to the walls. Food which was awful was served at 5pm in the evening. Sort of a gruel of old rice, and leftover veggies. The same shit was served at 6:30am as well. Three days went by and I was not allowed out at all, just the door would open and the food would be brought in.

The 4th late afternoon evening it sounded like a full scale riot had broken out. Yelling screaming shit being thrown around and the guards and inmates yelling profanities at each other. It was getting closer to where I was. Soon the door was opened and about 40 guards literally threw 3 guys in the cell. The 4th was drug in wearing a straight jacket.

Fuck me I ran to the other end of the room huddled in the corner. Soon the 3 who were free were helping the one out of the make shift straigh jacket. When the one was free he just started yelling and pacing and pounding on the door. Then they saw me, "What are you doing in our cell" he screamed in Indonesian. I could not even respond, and he yelled again. In my broken Indonesian I replied I had been there 4 days and was in for Ganja. He roared with laughter, "Ganja, you want some I can get it."

He came over and sat down, he was big for a Javanese at about 185 cm and a 100 kilos. "I am Yoyo" and I am here for killing 5 people", I am from Surabaya, but my gang, Wayon, Ketut, and Made, are all Balinese. They came over and said Selemat whatever. I was still very much in a state of shock but I didnt fear for my life. Thank god for small things.

It turns out they were the leaders of the "protection gang" of Bali and Yoyo was indeed a hardened criminal who had recruited the other guys over a period of 6 years. A club owner had been killed in Sanur and they were picked up for it. They had destroyed the jail I had been in and were put in the prison because everyone from the cops, to the jailors, to the warders, were terrified of them. They would become the reason I could get through my time in the Bali prison.

And even in prison adventures can occur.

So the first person you met in jail is a 6 times murderer.

    Who was Linda Isreal?

AO - I sure am enjoying this story! I guessing/assuming that this is the first time you've written the story out in this much detail!

You should save all this - put it together - like a biography.

Linda is a Canadian woman whose life was hell in their. Not too nice being a Jew in a Muslim prison. She was going to crew on a boat from Bali back into Oz. They raided the boat found some dope on it, and she went in. Very much like us. The dope was not hers and she did not even know about it but she went down. She spent 5 months in total in there. 2 months before us, and 4 months with us. We were able to watch her walk out after she had paid the bribe.

Simple but true MeMock. Singapore and Indonesia are known for their heavy punishments. But in the case of Indonesia I belive politics and the media on a global level joined in and you had a sad scene, guilty or not.
