Its coming soon buddy. That damn job actually wants me to start work again. Damn I have been doing 6 hours a week for full salary, what more could they want.

Okay, the mini riot and fire, changing cells, the garden, and the power of this gang to come soon in installments.

Yoyo had been in the big room only 1 and a half hours when he decided he didnt like it. So he sent the boys Made and Ketut up in to the roof rafters to get some big pieces of wood. Up they went like monkeys and were soon kicking the hell out of the beams. Soon one came loose and fell to the floor, it was like dominoes and more fell down. The roof did stay up as they stopped. The warders knew something was going on and were yelling and screaming for them to stop. But Yoyo and the gang knew they were afraid to come into the cell.

"Give me your books and magazines", he ordered me, I had about 10 Time and Newsweek magazines, which I gave him. Then he took one of the beams and just began to bash it on the cement shelf that served as our bed. After a bit it spintered and the boys began to do the same thing. The warders were freaking out now. Threatening to get guns. " They wont get the guns because they know we will take them away" YoYo cautioned.
Then I saw what he was doing he was going to build a fire in the cellblock in order to get out to where he wanted. Soon the fire was going strong and the smoke was rising, the warders were freaking out as was I locked in a cell that was on fire. Finally they got up the nerve to open the cell to try and come in and put out the fire. The same warders I was scared to death of started coming in with batons swinging. Never mind, the wood that was left was bigger than the batons and the warders were getting their ass kicked. I was huddled in the rear of the room away from the fire and the fighting.

All of this was occuring because Yoyo and the gang had been in many times before and wanted the cell block with windows. This is what they were screaming. All they wanted is out of no windows and to be moved to a cell with two large barred windows. Finally the guards agreed to do this once the warden had come back and given his permission. "As they were being led out I was sad as for the first time in a week I had company, and I knew that they had power. Yoyo was the last to go out and turned to me. " Are you coming or not"? For the first time I felt better, and a wee bit in control of what was going on.

We got into the new cellblock and it was the same, raised cement sleeping platforms down both sides with an open toilet in the back. But then more yelling and screaming, and I thought the fight was going to begin again. " Give me 1000 rupees" Yoyo screamed at me, Bam I gave him that money and didnt even ask why. Soon he has ordered food to be bought by the guards and brought back to us. Beef satay with rice cakes, and then the shock. 2 plastic bags full of Arak, the cheap rice whiskey of Indonesia. Well after a few good shots and a nice meal I slept for the first time in 8 days. But what dreams so damn vivid and real. I saw my did who had been dead 10 years in the cell with me. I was on an airplane heading home, I was back in Samui but in jail there. My mind surely had its own agenda that night.

The next day I figured out the prison routine of the Bali jail. Awake at 6am and get the shit they called food. Then until 5pm the prisoners could go where ever they wanted in the prison, but not in the womens section which had a 3 meter wall around it. There were many different types of cells. Some were individual, some shared with one, two, or three, and then the big dorm type we were in. Then at 5:30 it was lockdown, everyone in and the doors were bolted up. Lights were left on all night. Yoyo and the boys did not like being locked down, and this was to change soon, as was our cell one more time.

so your bahasa was somewhat reasonable then ? or where there times when u couldnt understand them did they converse in balinese for privacy? where were ever scared of these blokes ?

did you wonder about reprisals from the guards - that this would hurt your chances ?

I was okay in Bahasa Indo when I went in, got damn near fluent in there. Yes I was afraid of them at all times. But they gave me a sense of security as well. Yoyo was frigging nuts and claimed to have killed 5 or 6 people. He had been shot 4 times and in both his arm and leg you could feel bullets left in under the skin. The guards were mostly Balinese and actually had sympathy for me, so I did not have fear of them. You must remember I had not even been found guilty and sentenced. I was in the main prison awaiting trial, and I really did not even know what I was being tried for. I knew that they found the ganga that Laurie had sent me, but I did not know their "secret find" from back at the Janji Inn.

Ace storytelling as usual - you must have done a fair bit of writing in the past, aging one? Can't wait for more.

I always knew I could write SkullDigger but this is giving me a chance to fine tune my writing style. The problem is that now for the first time in a month I am at work. Less time to post but I shall make a sincere effort to keep up with it.

I hope to get up the Black Mariah, and moving cells in the next day or two.

3 Weeks in. 6:30 am we were all just up and out. Wandering about, I could hear some shouting but I was walking the walls around the prison as I did each morning. Thinking about the helicopter landing in the yard and whisking us away. Dreams at this time really meant nothing with guards on all 4 corner packing automatic weapons.

"Peter, Peter you have a phone call", someone shouted. Huh a phone call?
"The US embassy is on the line", What the hell? Soon I was being run to the wardens office. It was her " You will be in court today I shall meet you there". "Where, When"," I shall see you there" and she rang off. Fuck me how can I tell Deborah. "Will you pass this message to Deborah", I asked as I scribbled away on a sheet of paper. "Yes", damn some of the nicest words I had ever heard. I ran back to tell the boys what was going on.

"You will see the prosecutor first", "He is the key" Corruption ruled the roost in this prison. You were expected to buy your way out for an offense like mine. "How Much?", was the only thought going through my mind. "I got off for murder for 5,000 dollars and compensation", YoYo said. " What 5 grand for murder?" "It wont be the same for you, you are farung". I dont remember the word but it was the same damn thing. " But you said its only 6 grams in Bali this is nothing". " What did they find in your hotel", Yoyo enquired. I knew that they had found nothing so I said so, but asked " Do they plant shit here"? He did not even know what I was talking about. One less thing to worry about.

About 10 we were told to change and get ready to go. The out through the first gate, then the second larger gate opened and I saw Denpassar. I was not free, but just to see cars on the road and people walking by was nice. But shit they were staring at us. They loaded us into the "Black Mariah", anyway thats what Linda told Deborah they called it. It was just a pickup with a black mesh cage on the back. And we were going to have to sit on it through the streets of Denpassar. The damn truck seemed to take every back street. People would gawk at stoplights and ask. "Where are you going"? Where the fuck did they think we were going. We didnt really know either.

After about 15 minutes we pulled up at the court complex, it had seemed like hours. Still not handcuffed, very surprising. We were led into the prosecutors office. Nope he could not speak a word of English. The bitch from the US embassy was nowhere to be found either. I mean I could get by. But in this circumstance my life for the forseeable future was riding on my ability to communicate.

I told Deborah to sit down outside his office in seats in the open air corridor. They told us to come in. "Keep sitting I aint going in there without a translator or that bitch".

What do you think was the reason she was such a bitch? Was she always like this or just with you?

I am talking about the woman from the US embassy at this point in the story I had met her for 15 minutes face to face, and then had her hang up on me. What I am writing is my opinion of her at this time. She had never had to deal with any problem before, and was useless. She liked going to tea, and dinners.
