    Monkee Davy Jones dies

    MONKEE: Davy Jones.
    M

LATEST: Davy Jones, former lead singer of the 1960s made-for-television pop band The Monkees, has died at a hospital in Florida, according to an official from the local medical examiner's office.
His publicist, Helen Kensick, said Jones died of a heart attack in Indiantown, Florida, but she had no further details.
Jones, born in Manchester, England, became the principal teen idol of the rock quartet featured on the NBC comedy series The Monkees, which was inspired in part by the Beatles film A Hard Day's Night and ran from the fall of 1966 to August of 1968.
Although not allowed to play their own instruments on their early records, Jones and his three cohorts - Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork - had several hits that sold millions of copies, including Last Train to Clarksville and I'm a Believer.
Disparaged by critics as the "Pre-Fab Four" for the manufactured way in which the band came together, the group proved to be adept performers.
The group collaborated early on with some of the major songwriters and session musicians of the day, including Neil Diamond, Carole King, Glen Campbell and Hal Blaine.
Jones got his start as a young actor, at the age of 11, on the British soap opera Coronation Street before landing a role as the Artful Dodger in a West End production of Oliver! He went on to originate that role for the Broadway production and earned a Tony nomination.- Reuters

    ^Say it ain't so.

Davy Jones has taken the last train to Clarksville.

I loved that guy when I was a kid. Had his posters on the walls of my room. A little bit of my childhood has gone.

    Goodbye, Davy Jones.

To me the Monkees were a ray of sunshine in a dreary childhood.
    RIP Davy Jones.
Remembering the Music Of Davy Jones and the Monkees

The Monkees were the precursors to today's boy bands. They were made for TV but later took artistic control of their own music. These are their best songs.

Davy Jones Of the Monkees Dies At Age 66

    Wednesday February 29, 2012

Davy Jones was the biggest teen hearthrob of all members of the Monkees. Vocally, he is best remembered for his lead on "Daydream Believer." Davy Jones died in his sleep of a massive heart attack this morning, according to his publicist. He was 66. Due to his small stature, standing 5 ft. 3 inches, Davy Jones trained as a jockey as a teenager. However, he was encouraged by his trainer to pursue an acting and singing career. He appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show with the Broadway cast of Oliver! the same night as the Beatles made their legendary first appearance. At the age of 20 Davy Jones was hired to be part of the TV based pop group the Monkees, and his part in pop music history was sealed.
After the Monkees disbanded in 1971, Davy Jones continued to make TV appearances, including a memorable Brady Bunch episode, and perform as a solo artist. He participated in a number of Monkees reunions. Davy Jones is fondly remembered as one of the top teen idols of all time.

Yeah, the Saturday morning show was great. The Monkees were a manufactured band I suppose, with the yanks wanting a homegrown Beatles at the time, but they did belt out some classic pop 'chunes back in the day.

    RIP.

I remember trying to do the Monkees walk with my friends as a kid. We idolized those guys. I had a crush on Davy and posters of him on my walls.

At first I thought it was as joke when my neighbor told me Davy Jones died.

    Then I saw her face.

    Now I'm a bereaver.
