Not sure if her passing has been mentioned happened a few months ago, only just found out about the sad news .She lived just down the road from my parents house and i we see her most mornings on her way to London.

Pamela Rooke, the style icon and legendary figure in the British punk scene better known as Jordan, died yesterday at the age of 66, her partner confirmed to Brighton and Hove News earlier today. “She died peacefully a stone’s throw away from the sea in her hometown of Seaford, East Sussex, in the company of her loving family at 9 p.m. last night,” he wrote, adding that her passing followed a short period of illness due to a rare form of bile-duct cancer. “Jordan was a wonderful woman and will be remembered for countless decades to come.

James Caan, ‘Godfather’ and ‘Thief’ Actor, Dies at 82

    The RIP Famous Person Thread-8c2de719-2ced-4d80-8d0a-5fabcc879212-jpeg

James Caan, best known for playing tough guy roles like Sonny Corleone in “The Godfather” and Frank in “Thief,” has died, according to a tweet from Caan’s family. Caan was 82.

The Oscar-nominated performer’s other memorable roles include “Misery,” “Brian’s Song” and “Elf.”

“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy on the evening of July 6. The family appreciates the outpouring of love and heartfelt condolences and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time,” the actor’s Twitter page said.

Caan was born in the Bronx in 1940, the son of Jewish immigrants from Germany. Caan grew up in Sunnyside Queens and would attend Michigan State University to play college football.

Afterwards, Caan got bit by the acting bug and attended New York City’s Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre to study acting for the next five years under Sanford Meisner.

Caan would break out playing Chicago Bears running back Brian Piccolo in 1971’s “Brians Song” opposite Billy Dee Williams who starred as fellow Bears running back Gale Sayers. Caan would garner his first Emmy nomination for the portrayal of the cancer stricken athlete.

Caan would then go on to play hot headed Sonny Corleone in 1972’s “The Godfather” for director Francis Ford Coppola. Caan initially auditioned for the role of Michael which went to Al Pacino. Caan and Coppola previously worked together on 1969’s “The Rain People” where Caan played a brain damaged football player.

Caan would get nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in “The Godfather.” Caan would cameo as Sonny in a flashback scene in 1974’s “The Godfather Part II.”

After the success of “The Godfather” films, Caan would go on a tear in the 70s and star in such films as 1973’s “Slither,” 1974’s “The Gambler,” 1975’s “Rollerball,” “The Killer Elite” and “Funny Lady” opposite Barbara Steisand.

Not many actors have a 60+ year career. And he still had things lined up for next year.

I've never heard of Thief, let alone seen it, but will give that a shot later.

Shinzo Abe, Japan's former prime minister, assassinated at a campaign stop

    The RIP Famous Person Thread-72a0a02d-efef-49e9-be57-960ca51171d2-jpg

NARA, Japan, July 8 (Reuters) - Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Japan's longest-serving leader, died on Friday hours after he was shot while campaigning for a parliamentary election, shocking a country in which political violence is rare and guns are tightly controlled.

A man opened fire on Abe, 67, from behind with an apparently homemade gun as he spoke at a drab traffic island in the western city of Nara, Japanese media reported.

It was the first assassination of a sitting or former Japanese premier since the days of prewar militarism in 1936.

Doctors struggled to save Abe but he died at 5:03 p.m. (0803 GMT), about five and a half hours after being shot.

He bled to death from two deep wounds, one on the right side of his neck, a doctor told a nationally televised news conference. The former leader had no vital signs when he was brought in.

Speaking before Abe's death was announced, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida condemned the shooting in the "strongest terms" while Japanese people and world leaders expressed shock.

"This attack is an act of brutality that happened during the elections - the very foundation of our democracy - and is absolutely unforgivable," said Kishida, struggling to keep his emotions in check.

Police said a 41-year-old man suspected of carrying out the shooting had been arrested. NHK quoted the suspect, identified as Tetsuya Yamagami, as telling police he was dissatisfied with Abe and wanted to kill him.

Abe was making a campaign speech outside a train station when two shots rang out. Security officials were then seen tackling a man in a grey T-shirt and beige trousers.

"There was a loud bang and then smoke," businessman Makoto Ichikawa, who was at the scene, told Reuters.

"The first shot, no one knew what was going on, but after the second shot, what looked like special police tackled him."

Brian Jackson, the man behind the iconic Man from Del Monte adverts, has died peacefully at home at the age of 91, after a battle with cancer.
The star appeared in more than 25 adverts for the fruit goods brand and was known for the catchphrase: "The Man from Del Monte, he says yes!"
He was always seen in a crisp white suit and a hat as he tested the fruit of growers around the world as they waited for a "yes" or a "no".

Play the video and it will be stuck in your head all day.

The death of famed composer Monty Norman was announced today. The musician’s official website detailed that he passed away today on July 11th at age 94 after a “short illness”.

Norman, born in 1928, was a British composer whose best known work was the “James Bond Theme”, which he composed in 1962 for the James Bond film Dr. No starring the sixth actor to portray Bond, Sean Connery. The musical piece went on to become the official theme music for the entire franchise.
Controversy arose not long after when John Barry, the young man who had arranged the theme, claimed the rights to the music. This spurred a libel suit in 1997 in which Norman was named the rightful owner of the music by the court and was awarded 30,000 pounds in addition to court costs.
Before his time composing big film scores, Norman was a singer and even adapted as well as wrote a couple of West End theatrical successes. But, nonetheless, his work for the Bond films remain his most notable contribution to music. In 1977 Norman won the Ivor Novello Award from the Performing Rights Society for the theme music that was still going strong, a whopping fifteen years after its initial release.

Wow, Tony Sirico (The Sopranos) and James Caan (Godfather) have both passed? Sad.. Just as I thought I was out, they pull me back in...

I've read about Ivana Trump's death last night. I've watched some interviews of her before, she's a tough, awesome lady & businesswoman. I liked how she used to roast Marla (?), the 2nd wife of Donald.

    May all of them RIP.

So Ivana fell down the stairs. Can't wait to see what Q has to say.

Ivana Trump, the first wife of former US president Donald Trump, died after falling down stairs at her home in New York City, suffering "blunt impact injuries" to her torso. New York City Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the 73-year-old's death as accidental. Ivana was found at the bottom of the staircase in her apartment next to a spilled cup of coffee, according to reports in some US media outlets.

James Caan was in Godfather 1and 2.

Yes, I know that the quote was from G2 and that Al Pacino said it originally. I also know that the character of Silvio did the miming/ impression for the lads.

I think the character of Paulie (Sirico) said, I feel betrayed! (or similar) when the group found out thst Vito was gay.

Binge watched the Sopranos during covid lockdown.

    RIP Paulie (Sirico).

^ Father of lovely Mira Sorvino.

That is two Goodfellas dead within a couple of months.

Someone mentioned earlier on this thread the death of Ray Liota. Oddly enough, I learned of Liota’s death at dinner one night in Las Vegas at Piero’s Italian Cuisine from a Dominican bookie. Piero’s is really a Goodfellas kind of restaurant!
