    Thewphaingarm School Bangkok Celebrates Nazism!

"Thewpaingarm School in Bangkok is just a funky place if reading the forums in any indication. In the forum thread, we got to read a little about the common problems that TEFL teachers everywhere complain about; unsupportive administration, low pay, bad students, etc. It was a run of the mill thread until the bomb dropped.

See Sports Day in Thailand is a little about sports, but more than that the school is divided into teams. These large teams take on a theme. Some might dress like cowboys, some might dress like ladyboys, some might dress like ??? You get the idea.

The bombshell was that the students had participated in a Nazi celebration complete with singing, dancing and a parade. I thought, yeah right. It ain’t true. That was until the pictures were posted and the truth got out there.
Check out this link for pictures. They’re on page 2 of the thread:
    Thewpaingarm School in Bangkok

It’s a crazy, funky situation. Why the hell would any school let their students dress up like Nazis? I guess it goes to show how opening and welcoming of other cultural influences people in Thailand are ….and from the same people who supported the Axis in World War II."

    It looks pretty bad.

I can only think - hope - they are doing it for educational purposes rather than anything sinister.

Think there might be something to the backwards Swastika, the heavy use of Pink/red colors and OTT costumes?
Could it be the Thais actually shot one over your head?

    Nah, couldn't be that smart

Over the heads of the unwitting students, more likely.

The festive military costumes, German flag patches, fake rifles, "NA-ZI" in large letters at both sides of the stage, eagle insignia leave little to doubt, although the students probably have no idea what a "nazi" is (or was).

They are not celebrating an ancient Brahmin right (in which the swastika can be clockwise or counter-clockwise); it's clearly a celebration of nazism, organized by the school administration, who certainly are aware of what it means.

    TIT!

Doesn't look like any nazi uniforms, though it's teh most inappropriate theme one can imagine for costumes.

I want to stress that this flag has nothing to do with nazi Germany. It's in pure democratic tradition since the revolution in 1848.

I agree, it would only be bad if they understood what it meant, they don't, so it isn't.

I once had a discussion with some Thai students about Hitler... when I said that he might have had them killed because of the colour of their skin they were shocked and said that it seemed "very unfair"

    They really had no idea

You're saying the organizers had no idea?

The theme being the celebration of a homicidal regime.

"Them" being the students or the organizers?

This wasn't a costume party. This was an elaborately planned, carefully stage-managed event, with multiple symbolic references to the Third Reich.

You think that signifies ignorance of nazism on the part of organizers?

I have yet to meet any Thai, including teachers, who know anything much about Hitler. And it's not as if they'd be likely to disapprove, given the prevailing racism and patriotism here.

Kerux or IsaanAlex must have done some teaching at this school in the past.

^Yep, the Vikings et al liked to kill people and things like that, similar to the Nazis, just a lot longer ago. I think you might even find the Romans persecuted Christians and fed them to the lions or something like that.

Christ you might even find it wasn't long ago that the yanks had black slaves.. I don't even think the Nazis would have sunk that low

    Not many blacks in Europe.
The Nazis viewed the non-Aryan Whites as "slaves".
