Tsk tsk, your memory is all you want to have left when you get realllly old cs - look after it now.
Next question:
Did you ever do any kind of advertising to get the tourist folk in?
I am thinking of taking my first tentative steps into a little business next month.
In fact I am actually going to do it.
Well cmon CMN - don't stop there...what the bloody hell is it?
Just a couple of signs around town directing folks to the place MeMock. The rest was by word of mouth. That is why it is so important for everyone to leave with a smile on thier face.Originally Posted by MeMock
Funnily enough, I would constantly hear remarks about the cleanliness of the toilets from gals. That was important. Gals like clean bogs.

Thats a good one to remember. I never understand why so many businesses in Thailand have dirty bogs. It doesn't take much to have a clean one.
Next question.
What about tax? You never actually 'owned' the pub and everything would have been cash - did you ever get a visit from the suits?

Well next month I expect a full report, maybe even your own special thread!
Tax? hehehe. Everything I was doing was moody MeMock. I was on a 3 month tourist visa.Originally Posted by MeMock
So you never had a single visit from anyone official?
There was one time when one of my mates came in his boat to where I was bobbing in the river and told me that there was a big fat policeman waiting for me in the pub. Of course my mind raced as to what it was about. I decided that it could wait and went on bobbing. After all I had half a bottle of Sang Thip and plenty of ice left. When I did finally get back to the pub he was gone but my cook told me that it was Lert, and that he had borrowed a carton of beer Chang and 3 bottles of Mekhong. Lert was a senior police officer in Kan and the elder brother of one of my staff. He was even dodgier than me and we often laughed at some of the scams that he had pulled.Originally Posted by MeMock
He never replaced the beer and Mekhong, but then, I never expected him to. It was what I considered, playing the game.
Sorry for the delay in questions.
As you are now moving back to Thailand, if the oppurtunity came up to own another pub would you take it?
To be honest I have not ruled it out but the opportunity would have to be pretty good. I think that it is fair to say that I would do things a little differently, if I were to run a pub again. That said, I would have to look at everything on its own merit as there are so many variables to consider.Originally Posted by MeMock
I would prolly be more inclined toward a restaurant rather than a pub nowadays as I am a bit of a foodie type person anyway. That and the fact that I would prolly drink too much if it were a pub.
Done right, a restaurant could do very well but if you havnt done your homework, it could fail so easily. Many do.
In other words I am just not sure.
Baguettes is where it's at. And coffee...
That's so now loashi!Originally Posted by laoshi

Let us know and if we make a million we'll mention your contribution in the annual report to our shareholders!!
The "Shaguette". Basically you get your end away in the bar and get a free bun with ham and stuff on it at the end. And coffee...

I remember someone posting about how they walked into a bar on Suk back in the Viet war days and there were 3 girls being screwed on the bar.
I don't know if they had the ham sarnys after though!
An excellent thread! This is actually the first time I have read it. I just spent the last 30 minutes laughing on the inside. More, more...
