Yeah I hear ya, we had all of them.serviced and cleaned when we were there in December. Likewise the pool is serviced twice a week by a couple of Lao blokes who are spot on they make sure the pools running as it should be and the Tennant doesn't need to fuck with the pump and chlorinator. I m pay about $500 a year for that. Happy to do so as most tenants don't give a fuck

grasping greedy landlords, lounging in their pool villas trousering vast profits every month whilst poor exploited working class folk struggle to feed their urchins and pay the rent.

its money for nothing and the chicks for free!

I'm just letting the Swiss bloke enjoy the fruits of my ditch digging and the NGO he works for are happy to pay his rent . Next year I will likely put the price up as he's a.bit of a whiner. and unicef, or WHO or whoever it is he works for can pay . Nice little earner actually. BLD,s mum.didnt raise no meatheads ya know.

lucky you are landlording in s.e.asia

in the uk landlords are regarded by the authorities as worse than vermin. many are selling up due to the increasingly onerous legislation they are hammered with.

It is the same in Oz. Rentals have gone through the roof and there is a huge housing shortage. Landlord's are taking the piss . And getting away with it.
In Lao pre pandemic we had it rented out for a couple of hundred more than were getting now ..we were quite lucky to have a tenant who stayed through most of the pandemic , when he left it was apparent that vientiane was in bad shape post pandemic and that the expat community seemed to have halved. I decided to lower the rent rather than have it sit empty, which is what the Lao folk do. They will sit on it for a year or more and won't come down in.price. we have a pool which makes it more rentable but it also needs to be maintained regardless of tenanted or not. Another reason I'm happy to pay to have it maintained( tenant supplies the salt and chemicals)

The MIL was taken to hospital on Friday and Doctors were very concerned for her health. She had a very low oxygen level in her blood, lung infection, kidney failure and a distended intestine. She's been suffering with a bad heart for some time and the heat is taking its toll. Anyway, despite the wife only being back a couple of weeks, we made the decision for her to go back and make sure her mum was taken care of properly.

Today, the hospital says she is fine and can leave??

Strange because only yesterday they said it would take 10 days in hospital to clear the lung infection. When they took her off oxygen the oxymeter reading dropped back down to 91%, which is way too low.

This same hospital cleared an uncle as okay and he died two days later. They cleared a baby as okay and when we took to a different hospital he was rushed to ICU and mother told off for not coming sooner.

Wife will be returning to take MIL to Udon to get some proper treatment.

^ Unfortunately, locals can't avoid using their local hospital in preference to another unless they have private medical care. The only way they can get better care is if one of the hospital doctors signs them off to another provincial hospital (in this case the one in Sakon Nakhon).

No chance of getting private medical care without my wife or myself being there as they won't believe she can pay otherwise. She is too old for private insurance so I cover the costs, but only if she agrees to the treatment.

    Money matters in Thailand ...
