IME British dentists are oversubscribed with irregular patients. In which case it it not unusual for them to give appointment preference to regular customers, usually those undergoing a course of treatment, or regular maintenance.
Thus ensuring a regular income stream.
It could also be said that they can charge whatever they want, because demand far exceeds supply.

Why are all the women out tonight 3foot wide ,wearing fake DM boots and wearing too much makeup with slugs painted above their eyes.
In my day they were all skinny with rosy cheeks and wearing high heels, stockings and suspenders.
    My how things have changed.
Still any port in a storm.

Don't you hate it when a straight forward job goes pear shaped?
Just doing a bit of drain maintenance and the shit hit the fan.

I was appointed the Groundskeeper at my Little Athletics Club. Biggest in the City, over 400 Athletes.

Marking out the track at the beginning of the season is one of the largest and most important tasks.

It's quite complex, 8 Lanes, 100/200/300/400 starts, cross country starts, all the different hurdle intervals, couple of long jump pits, Javelin/Discus and finally Shotput.

Takes 2/3 volunteers 2 shifts of about 3 hours each. Say 6-9 man hours. (please resist the pun)

BELOW:- This brilliant bit of kit below could do it in less than a 1/3 of that time while you sit in the car. Designed in Denmark.

Below, it's marking out a Soccer Field.

I thought, buy one of these and it would be a good sideline income stream. I have the contacts through my Club.

For the life of me, couldn't get anyone to say what it costs in their country, even speaking to World Marketing Manager.

Then I found out why ... they charge almost BHT900,000!

Add the commercial GPS service @ BHT 24,000 per year a year, recurring !

You get the following layouts on the (supplied) Tablet ... free geometry shapes, tennis, Handball, Netball, Hockey, cricket templates and a sports field marking template of choice.

So, I would choose the athletics track, but if I wanted the Soccer Field and a Gridiron Field ... it's another ... wait for it ...
Additional Templates (that tiny bit of software) can be purchased from the supplied tablet @ BHT 48,000

Now, that for the baby robot ... the Tiny Line marker Pro is ... BHT 1.48 Million

The only other competitor, Turf Tank is about the same price for the marker, don't know about the software yet.

The risk in buying one is that the Chinks will copy it, be unreliable, but a 1/5 of the price.

Looks like it's going to be the tape and geometry for next few years.

^ Just the basic running track ... no 100/200/300/400 starts, cross country starts, all the different hurdle intervals, couple of long jump pits, Javelin/Discus and finally Shotput.

    Marking the 400m starts ...

My wife sent me this picture this afternoon.

It seems my geological mugs suffered a major orogeny in the post, en-route to Thailand.

    This is a great shame.

I may be able to salvage the Palaeozoic and Cenozoic but the Mesozoic has suffered a major extinction event and is lost forever, just like the dinosaurs that lived during that geological era.

The shame is you didn't pack them as if they were fragile but instead packed them as if they were rocks.

I bought some flights to Europe a couple of weeks ago. The option at the end was to pay in Euros or change to pounds (as I was paying with a UK account). I chose Euros and the final amount was shown in my account balance as being substantially less than the equivalent would have been had I asked for it to be converted to pounds at the time of payment by the vendor.

Job done, I moved the leftover shekels back to my main account (only one can be used for actual transactions) and forgot about it. Two days ago, I got a message from my bank saying I was overdrawn and to immediately put funds in to prevent any excess fees being applied!

So, they've converted at the time to one price and then amended it later. How does that work then? Surely the price at the time of purchase, reflecting their own exchange rates, stays the same? I can't see how I can be liable for any subsequent changes the bank makes- I've honoured my part of the transaction.

If the flight was originating in the UK you'd always pay £, no idea why you would expose yourself to translation fees and currency risk. Anyway, lesson learnt.

The flight doesn't touch the UK and the final total was still less than the option of having the vendor exchange to pounds at the time of purchase.

My gripe is with the bank charging me one price and then changing it a week later.

Had you paid for it at the time of ordering or was it just 'deducted' until payment was due?

It was deducted from my balance. Does that not actually count as payment then?

Yes, of course, paid. Your bank needs to explain its policies as they seem to have erred.

It is an opportunity not a catastrophe. Think Japanese?

I knew I was in the right. I've had no messages since, so it looks like I got a (minor, very minor) result then by choosing to pay in the local currency of the airline rather than having them convert to my bank's currency!

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, nammers and chitty!
