    We weren't close..

He usually came, took my throne, smoked my ciggies and only said "krap" when we talked.

    He didn't drink alcohol....anymore.

I'm not going and neither are the offspring

(she has a 'b' ticket. Is that good leg room or such ? )

    ^ Fair enough.

My wife wouldn't be strong enough to go alone.

There’s a dove nest in my window box. When I walk around the side of the house, mama dove flies up right in front of my face. Startles me every time.

Just under a fortnight with my dad and I'm down with flu on New Year's Day. It's wet, cold, and windy outside and not much better inside. Just been out to get some lemsip and now its back to bed.

Dad's a cross between Steptoe and Scrooge. He was out looking for stuff dropped by partygoers this morning, managed to find £4. I wouldn't mind but he has 6 pensions giving a pretty good monthly income.

we have our heating on from 6am to 10pm, set at 22C so its nice and toasty. why doesnt your old man turn the heating up. with the government heating subsidies householders have been getting for the past couple of years surely its a no brainer? (ive received £750 this year, £500 for our flat and £250 for our garage which has a separate electric supply for the power door. it's no wonder the country is broke, but i'm not complaining, better to keep me warm than some channel crossing swarthy in his hotel, eh cyrille?)

the weather this past 2 months has been unusually awful with incessant depressions blowing in from the west bringing storms, rain, hail and hill snow. there was hardly any autumn this year, straight from an excuse of a summer into the gloom of winter. the temperatures have not been too low though with only one truly cold blast so far.

the nannying media here are forever broadcasting unnecessary "red zone danger to life stay home" warnings whenever it gets a bit wet or windy, and they always drag out some po faced climate crisis misery from the meteorological office to ram it home, whereas all they need to say is "look at the fucking calendar dickhead, it's december, so put your big coats on"

    I preferred the previous version.

^^^ Cos he still thinks he's in the war! He banked the subsidy and prides himself on how little gas and electricity he's using. Gas central heating could go up several notches but he won't do it. He's obsessed with how many units he's using each month. He's keeping the lounge warm with 2 100w bulbs!!

I am shivering with fever at the moment. Need to sleep this off before I travel back.

How come my Dad is okay? He's wearing my thermals and outside gear in the house!

You live in a Flat that has to be constantly heated but that's OK? Coz you get a subsidy? Yet you want to give stumpy shit for having a lovely house and garden / swimming pool, plenty of bbqs and leisure activities. It must of been a Stellar career being a dental surgeon ?

The power came back on after 3.5 days

We have now transitioned from massive thunderstorms and occasional rain to torrential rain with occasional thunderstorms after 2 days sunny respite before NYE

My massive side by side fridge freezer seems to have been fooked by the dodgy electricity supply during the brown-out phase or the lightning strike or the genny so that is my new moan.

    Daily Moan-20240101_190802-jpg

I did have an old fridge downstairs in the garage which I bought 2nd hand in 2004 and it fired up OK so I moved all the food down there.

I am now running a tiny bar fridge in the kitchen to save running up and down the stairs while I figure out a plan.

Cheaping out is fun. It becomes a hobby. My uncle is the cheapest guy i know. He made fun of my dad for using the drive-through at a fast food joint. Why ? Because they don't charge you extra for going in. You can go in and use their facilities at no extra cost so you should always go in.

Not just my moan but a moan from the meat-munching butcher birds too.

I had not seen these feathered fellas in a week.

The noise of the genny had scared them off as their hearing is quite acute I think for their chirping communications.

But they are home to roost once again as they know what side their bread is buttered on.

Set off for Dover ferry on Wednesday morning with the hope of catching an earlier one so I could do a bit of shopping in Calais. I had a hotel booked there already but current 18:30 arrival was a tad keen for anything but quick sprint around Carrefour. Left with plenty of time and decided to take the Swindon M4 route from Cheltenham. Normally, a safe bet rather than the A40, but not his time. A serious accident during the night meant the junction to the M4 was closed. No diversion signs, no indications of how to join the M4, just a closed road.

    Thanks!

Anyway, a quick look as the Satnav gave me a route to another junction to the West. However, the Satnav and the road signs kept insisting it was only an M4 (W) junction and kept guiding back to the closed junction. Chucking it down with rain, flooded roads everywhere, stupid bus lanes and magic freaking roundabouts, cost me the best part of 30 minutes to get back onto the M4. How anyone manages to survive in Swindon, God only knows. What a devil of a place, built by Satan himself. It must be the Hell on Earth!

I missed the earlier ferry and ended up rushing around Carrefour.

In contrast, today was was a pleasant, if a little lengthy, drive through Europe and back to darkest Bavaria. Away from those gale force winds the UK is facing and back to the tranquil cold air and cosy warm apartment.

Good to hear you've shook off the worst of the flu and got back safe mate.

I reckon that Skandi big freeze is heading our way shortly, so you made it out just in time.

Been cooped up in the condo since January 1st. Woke up sick as a dog and slept for about 36 straight hours. Took a COVID test on the 3rd and positive for COVID … both the wife and I. Last two days basically dealing with phlegm but feeling much better.

On a positive note the office staff at our condo complex are some top shelf people. They’ve gone above and beyond fetching food, medicine and necessities these past several days. Even gone so far as to pay for stuff up front trusting us to pay them back. Kinda treating us like family.

I’m quadruple vaxed and the wife triple vaxed if it matters.

^ Sorry to hear that SK. I almost died from it 2 years or so ago.

Good to hear about the locals.

You may remember Jonny Danger. He was in a bad motorbike accident down south around 15 years ago, was out of action for around 6 months and said the local Thais (Buddhists) didn't do squat for him, but it was the muslims that took great care of him making sure all his needs were met and taken care of. Probably not handjobs, and the such, but ya know what I mean.

Bringing him food, water, making sure his bandages etc were changed and would take him to medical checkups etc.

I don’t recall reading that before and how hard it hit you. Thankfully you’re still with us. By the way this is the second time we both had it and this time probably half as bad for me and maybe the same for my wife.

Yeah I remember JD … recall him being basically being friendly at least towards me in the forum. Hope he’s doing well wherever he is these days.

Good luck, Storekeeper. The first time I had COVID, my body fought it off in 24 hours and I recovered faster than I have for anything. Pretty well 95 % two days later. But the second time, nine months later, was a different viral strain and it screwed me up....I still have some symptoms of Long COVID.
Just don't get into exercise too soon afterwards, no matter how well you feel.
