As I understand it (!), you can take it lump sum, or a monthly pension. Not big money either way, but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.....

^^ And, on reflection - one thing I do not have an answer about yet is whether you remain covered by the social health insurance. That, in itself is worth a fair bit.

Yeah. You can. And you don't have to leave Thailand to get it. When you surrender your Work Permit you get a release date and you submit that to the Govt group.

That's a good question and one I haven't looked into albeit I would just pay as I go versus using the Thai system.

The thai system has its quirks, but been a (literal) life saver to me....

Work set a workshop (on line) starting 9am this morning. Fucking transformative management crap, and so far has consisted of some old Thai guy droning away for 2 hours. He has just moved on to "design thinking".

    Kill me now.

The gf recently sat a government exam. The study included about 9 hours of Thai droning. You don't need to understand the details to know that the delivery is excruciatingly boring.

Think that was in the first hour. It is worth noting that I have to attend, but I do not speak Thai. I can remember one slide that was up for about 15 minutes. It was a fishing boat in a storm. Fuck knows what I am supposed to get from that.

I would log the f*ck out, but my boss is attending...

Sorry, I meant Education for Sustainable Development

I'm sure he would spend more than an hour on this worthy topic. Education for Sustainable Development

Yes it is true re the social security. You have to keep on paying to be covered.
If there is a significant gap between stopping work and paying into the SS as a retiree then you will not qualify.
Not sure of the permitted gap but go to your local SS office. They would be able to tell you

What is the next step up from a moan? I need a rant thread.

The gf and I take a brisk walk most mornings which brings us into contact with all the dogs who live along the route. A few months back a couple occupied one of the larger 'Tieng Na' shacks along the way, it doesn't really qualify as a house because it has neither doors nor windows, still it is their home and they got themselves two puppies, one black and one brown. They bound out to greet us every morning and they are growing fast, although still really puppies, eager to play and never any trouble.
This morning we saw the owner. Someone poisoned both dogs at the weekend.
What kind of person carries such metaphorical poison in their hearts that they can kill someone's pets?

^ Cannot see how it would apply to puppies, but dogs that become "problematic" (with or without "owners") have a short life span in my street (that is an observation, not a claim of responsibility!).

Sad day today. I have apparently moved from "getting on in years" to "old f*cking relic".

My bedroom TV (a cheapo LG) had degraded to such a point that it looked like I was watching Avatar - under water. Apparently a common problem with cheapo LGs. So I ordered a new TV, a 32 inch Samsung. Meh - its the bedroom, and I do not like monster screens.

So, I have no idea what I now have, but I got a black box that hooks up to what is basically a monitor. Very f*cking strange. I was going to toss the whole thing, but fortunately my son was able to hook it all up, and walk me through it.

Getting old sucks. But beats the alternative I suppose.
