^ I have had a couple of Hatari pedestal fans for around 8 years now and a couple of smaller desk fans for about 5 years. They are used all night and without problems so far. They do get dirty though and I have to strip them down every 6 months or so and give them a good clean.

The fans are kept clean, I even stripped two apart to try to get to the fault, seems that they have sleeve bearings in the motor end shafts and i didn't go past that. The first one was a Imarflex and is basically the same as the Hatari, The Imarflex lasted a good 15 before it started playing up. And it could just be the weather up here. So if yours are fine I'll go with the weather. A very dry dry season and then a very humid mold inducing rainy season then the cold season when the fans are off for a month.

WD40 will clean the shaft but after that you will have to grease the shaft bearings (front and back) with silicon spray.
One common reason for the Hatari fans to slow down and then refuse to start is a burned motor capacitor which you can get from Lazada for 20-30baht. Remove the motor cover and check if the capacitor is flat (ok) or has become swollen (bad).
Lazada also have the complete swing gearbox for around 50baht, replace it in case yours is noisy.

Ok silicon spray, I didnt think of that, I was thinking graphite powder, but how to get it into the shafts. My thoughts are that the Wd40 will trap dust and build up over time causing a never ending need to spray. As the capacitor goes, all the units are fine once serviced with lube but over time, maybe a couple of weeks they will start to squeal and shudder then slow to a stop. I will get on Lazada tomorrow and order a can of silicon spray, give them all a good clean on the the shafts with some Wd40 contact cleaner and see if we can get another 15 years for them, cheers and thanks for the tip.

^ WD40 is not a lubricant. Buy some Singer sewing machine oil.

Not a particularly nice moan today.

I took our new puppy Maya to the vet's this morning for her second round of vaccinations, and also discovered that she gets car sick.

Maya was sitting alongside me on the way when suddenly she stuck her neck forward like a tortoise and deposited a big pile of vomit in the passenger footwell.

I was stuck in busy traffic at the time and the only measure I could take was to put the windows down, but even so it wasn't very pleasant at all.

When I arrived at the vet's all I could find to clear up was a plastic doughnut bag hanging off the gear stick that was being employed as a rubbish bin... so I emptied out the sweet and ice lolly wrappers and used the bag like a glove to pick up the sick and then turn inside out... dog poo picking up style when in the UK.

I soon discovered there was a small split in the doughnut bag, but not before I'd transferred Maya's vomit from my hand to the only face mask I had with me. I had a most unpleasant 30 minutes at the vet's... it bladdy stank, but luckily the dog vomit was on the inside of the mask and not the outside, so no-one else seemed to notice.

I've now put a stash of masks in the car.

Spend a bit more, they'll last longer as the zippers won't break.
