^ That's my main dog! I looked after him as a pup and he's been my snake killing friend for the last 7 years. Always by my side at home in Thailand and saved the day against a male spitting cobra.

Skin disease makes him stink but no-one cares until I get home. They can barely look after themselves at times.

Troy, I get it now. It really irks me how a country which professes to be Buddhist can care so little about the animals and environment around them. Though I still love the place they are a self absorbed lot who by and large care nought ulness it affects them - what action do you plan? because if it was me there would be consequences to treating (or not) the dogs that way. Anyhow hope you've gripped it now and the outcome is favourable.

Troy, my daughter's dog was having all sorts of problems with skin and also started to stink...really bad stink. Anyway the vets here finally came to the conclusion it was a thyroid problem. Gave him the proper medicine and he's well on his way to a full recovery. Back to his old ornery self too. Or maybe you already had that figured out.

Slinky went for months like that before they finally worked it out.

Here are some pics of Slinky. Two before and two while he had this problem. Don't have any current pics of him in recovery. He's a Newfoundland mix...with Lab we think.

Does your dog look any thing like this Troy? He got even worse after these pics. At one point he was almost entirely bald. Poor bastard was miserable for quite awhile, before they figured out how to fix it. Lots of scratching and itching.

^ Thanks. I'm pretty sure he's got one of those diseases that are common here. The vet gave him a couple of shots and reckons he'll need a couple more next week. We'll see how he gets on over the next few days.

There was a time when the vets could be called out but now it seems only for livestock and at a price. It's about 20km to the clinic. I would have carried the dog there when I was a kid and saw the condition he was in. No chance of anyone doing that around here apparently.

Yeah they gave Slinky shots, changed his diet and tried several other things that didn't work. The thyroid medicine is working though. Forgot to ask the daughter if its in pill form or liquid...or what.

^ Could do with some of that rain here at the moment. It managed to rain for 30 minutes yesterday but at home, not on the farm. It's the period between the first rains and the main rain and it's not looking good right now.

    ^^^^ Troy, just a thought...

Many years ago one of our dogs had a fight, caught an infection and went downhill fast. The vet resorted to steroids but even this didn't help.

After a while she became lethargic, was off her food, had open sores and her fur came out in tufts. We tried all sorts of ointments, creams etc to no avail and were resigned to losing her until we tried a new vet and a blood test showed that her thyroid wasn't working properly and was not producing thyroxine (note to Headhunter - not all Thai vets are bad!). The vet prescribed synthetic thyroxene and within a couple of days our dog was completely transformed. Back on her food, wagging her tail and enjoying life again. Everything else cleared up over time.

Dan is still with us 10 years later and a picture of health. We stopped giving her the synthetic thyroxene after a couple of years when her thyroid had kicked in again. It seems that the steroids had knocked out her thyroid and then her problems just escalated. (This is apparently a known hazard with steroids and many body builders also take synthetic thyroxene as their thyroid glands don't work properly).

If any of those symptoms sound familiar I'm sure I still have a load of the synthetic thyroxene at home that you are more than welcome to. It will be out of date but its all sealed and should be Ok. Just make contact of you're interested.

^ Thanks, I'll bear it in mind if the skin infection doesn't clear up. He's not off his food, just pissed off with the scratching, although he isn't quite so bad after the first set of jabs. Looks more like he's picked up a parasite and the hot weather isn't helping.

The lapdog has an abscess on her tooth, which is likely to be bloody painful and why she isn't on form. We'll see what can be done about it. Some antibiotics should help relieve the swelling.

The "other" forum didn't like my use of the word t.w.a.t.

Must be a dull job sifting through posts looking for those sort of transgressions. Had I had use twat without being polite, it would have been automatically deleted.

British temperatures rivalled the Mediterranean in recent weeks and months and it appeared the nation was in for a hot summer. However, as heavy rain has hit the UK this week with more anticipated today, bookmakers have now slashed the odds on this month being the wettest June on record. Yellow weather warnings have been issued for the coming week and an onslaught of heavy rain is expected to deluge the country and could lead to potential flooding.

Further evidence the Brussels Broadcasting Corporation's standards are slipping. Twice yesterday on radio in relation to the Tory leadership race an interviewee mispronounced Jeremy Hunt's name.

    EDIT here we are

Tuesday this week BBC host Victoria Derbyshire used the c-word live on air during her show, saying: "You say that the man you're backing, Jeremy C***." She continued: "I've never said that before in my life,...

    fukin disgrace.

Sore throat, then laryngitis, now conjunctivitis ... thankfully only in one eye.

Doc said it's related, emanating from the cold into to the sinus ducts.

Drops for the eyes and the rest will fix itself.

    Airlines must be in trouble.

On previous trips this year, AirAsia never bothered weighing cabin baggage. Along with Thai Lion Air and others, they now insist on doing so. My carry on weighed 9kgs and their allowance is 7kg. Into the hold with it, despite others in the queue, many of whom weighed considerably more 10kg heavier than me.

Fortunately, the obese fuckers were not seated next to me. That was no comfort to anyone as not one of my four flights departed or arrived on time, and service standards were appalling during the flights.

As a frequent flyer with at least 4 different airlines, I have previously been moved to an empty row in premium seats, even though I didn’t have a premium ticket.

The only airline that seems to have consistent policy on service standards and inclusive prices is Garuda.

    Rant over.
